Maybe this has been brought up before, but I just "discovered" a great singer/songwriter who is a throwback to the early 70s era. Brian Vander Ark, formerly of the band the Verve Pipes, reminds me of several performers of that era. One song in particular is reminiscent of Cat. It's called "Colorful" and was aparently featured in the movie "Rock Star" several years ago. Here is link to a Youtube performance of the song. www.youtube.com/watch?v=OHZN75ALPVgLet me know what you all think.

It's a pretty song, but I don't think he sounds like Cat.

this guy is not very cat sound alike, he is more dylan sound alike, but he is great anyway also is one of the few times where i see Cat Stevens quoted as a direct influence all in all a great sognwriter, he is the man who wrote the beautiful song Society performed by Eddie Vedder (another cat stevens fan) in the terrific film Into the Wild worth checking out, here www.jerryhannan.com/

I didn't mean to imply that his voice sounded like cat..no one has ever come close---but it's more in the structure of the song and the strumming patterns that I saw a cat influence.

Hello, I'm surprised to see those comments.... I don't want to critize anybody's songs or voice.... If you listen to Cat STEVENS's voice : it's a particuliar voice. If are attentive, you can hear something very special : his voice is at once full of warmness and in the heavy notes, she is very particuliar and wonderful (hear "I can't keep in it")... The compositions and melodies are own : I don't hear the same work and same harmony with piano and guitar (hear : "Miles from nowhere") .... I play piano for years and years now and I 'm used to listen to many records and I can say nobody is or seems like Cat in music. I've heard many artists and they are all different : some of them in the arrangements or in the way of playing they bring emotion : I think that the most important. Let stay Cat STEVENS at his own place and the others too. Enjoy music and cherish Cat as the most beautiful artist I've never heard. Christiane
