4 to 6 months?! Wow. I change them every 2 months at least, otherwise the strings won't hold the tone consistently when strumming it.

Hey Jacky and Kristian, good to see both of you are still at it. Kris, thanks for the email last week.
What year and model Ovations do both of you own, and where were they made? Mine is a 1975 Standard Balladeer with the deep bowl made in Connecticut. I only paid $365 with the hardshell case back then. I know that mine dosen't have the custom inlays that yours has Kris. As far as strings go, I've been using Elixir for about 16 months now. I like the clean sound and like Jacky said, they last a good while. I play acoustically for about 100 - 150 kids each Sunday and strum loudly, so the strings really take a beating. I usually change them every 3-4 months when the sound dulls. I've never had a problem with the tuning though.

Hello Gino! Good to hear from you. My Ovation is a Custom legend 1719 and it came originally with the D'addarios I mentioned earlier. I'll stick with those only because it's what the engineers at ovation who designed the guitar said to use. Who am I to argue? But they do sound great. I do hear the elixirs are great and since they are coated they won't dull because of finger grease after a while. What's your repetoire for the kids on sunday? Sounds very cool. I've been thinking myself I would like to do something like that for nursing home people. Older Italians probably won't understand the songs but I think they'd enjoy it regardless. Plus it would give them something to do once in a while.

Kris, What year was your Ovation made? I'm gonna give the D'addarios a try next time I replace the strings.
On Sundays I lead worship for the children at the church I attend. 1st grade through 4th grade, 2 services each Sunday. It is a blast and man do those kids sing their hearts out. I'm convinced that I am more blessed listening to them sing than they are having my guitar to lead them. The repetoire is all very contemporary christian worship songs. Great idea about playing for nursing homes. I know your music would be loved and appreciated.

www.ovationguitars.com/?fa=detail&mid=1811 This is my Guitar. I have only had it a year now and it was brand new. I guess it was made in 2006. I paid 1399 for it and this included the case. I especially liked the on board tuner. Oh well here it is so you can get a closer peak at it.

Thanks Christine. It's also fun to play. Lately I prefer my Classical. Just different sounds need different guitars. But for the money I spent for it I think my Ovation is a pretty professional sounding guitar. I liked it because it has a full body (not a cut away) and that it doesn't have that country guitar look with the black teardrop guitar pick guard. It seems to suit me and I always get good comments about it.

I'm sorry that I can't reply too frequently now as I changed my Internet provider. The new one still keeps me waiting for my new Internet and phone connection, so I'm pretty much cut off internet-wise. I gotta head to my uni institute every time I wanna go online which isn't that great.
But in order to cut it short: I'm still with my left-handed Ovation Celebrity (with OP30 Preamp). I'd have bought a better one by now but, you know, the selection of instruments for lefties isn't quite numerous, and the price not too affordable. If I had the choice (and certainly, the money) then I'd go for an Ovation Glen Campbell 1627 Anniversary Edition or Al DiMeola's Custom Legend Model 1769-ADII, and a Gibson Everly Brothers (black, J-180). But for lefties ... this might remain a dream.
So far I've been playing a lot due to my loss of Internet, and I started tabbing some songs that I think deserve a more precise tab. I'm currently working on Moonshadow. Here a little preview (don't mind the spacing. It won't show correctly here):

I'm uploading to You Tube. The Little Ones, Maybe Theres a World, and Trouble. Thanks Glaucus for the help!! These are only instruction, a lot better than the original vids. The originals are still there these are clearer and more toward teaching. I also sent inb Trouble to Christine for Chords. Capo 4th fret.

Hey Kris, I was over on YouTube and clicked on your page (since you're in my favorites) to see what you've been up to. Great job on "Oh Very Young" and the classical guitar sounds great. Video quality is great too. Now I've gotta go check out the rest of your new vids. Keep 'em coming. Great job!

Thanks for the compliments, the quality gets better if I make them shorter. I just can't seem to accomplish that though. I screw up too much while giving instruction. I hope they are at least comprehensible to someone. a intermediate guitar player would probably do fine but a beginner would need more help. I guess I am teaching at a intermediate level. This is why I need better quality so people can actually see what I'm doing. If you notice in the description I also added the majicat URL for that particular tab. I thought the videos were long over due and I have been wanting to redo them for sometime. If you notice at the end of Trouble I showed a close up of my guitars. Thanks Gino for the compliment about Oh Very Young. I'm pretty proud of that one. The classical guitar gave it a better sound I think, despite my mistakes. Oh and Gino check out the Jzero thread I've changed a few things to your method of doing it. I think it's right too. I haven't gotton the whole way through the song yet but I will.

Welcome Montypython!! Crab Dance I haven't really sat down with too much. I know Yusuf used to use this song as a tuning tool. He said thats how it came to be a song by playing something to make sure his guitar was in tune. I forget where I got that. It opens up with Em/D XX0453 then slides up to D XX0232 then A X02220 then back to D then A again. That's only the start. Then he has key changes to C G and back to E. Very hard to figure out by ear. If you can just get the chords and learn to strumm along maybe the rest will come. I haven't gotten any further than that. I also think I hear 2 guitars maybe 3. One is capoed and the other open. One plays and the other one takes over in higher notes. You'd have to be a lot better guitar player than me to figure this one out. I've always like the tune.

I went to the site. Australian made. I like the way they shaped the tear drop pick guard. It looks like it has a pickup as well. cool !! How's Crab dance coming? Have you gotten any further along with the comp? I'd love to be able to sit and play that song!!
