I'm thinking about tabbing some song. Any wishes or requests? Any tabs that you want to get polished up cat-style?

Jacky~ Please try to figure out One Day at a Time. I think he's using some of those new chords he was refering to. It would be good to have up on the tabs section.

New chords? One day at a time doesn't seem to be hard, does it? Some appregio, strumming, and a change in the key. Very much like this: www.911tabs.com/link/?3784555

No problem. Not sure if I got all of Alun's slides. Got to admit that I could have made the ending a tad better. Maybe in a revised version ^.^.

I just put up Peace train Blues/How long. There are also some others I put up since last time. Including a much more playable version of Silent Sunlight. Check them out and let me know what you guys think.

Nice addition with How Long/ Peace Train Blues. Dunno what you have changed from last time, but the Silent Sunlight tab still holds the untransposed chords C11, C7 and C at the very bottom.
I just had a quick glance at your Green Fields tab. I think that several chords are wrong in there.

I knew the How Long/ Peace Train Blues would be appreciated. The Silent Sunlight tab is exactly the same except whenver I see a F and a B flat together I look for easier ways to play the music. Which means I get out my capo and star transposing chords. G to D capoed at 3 fret is a faster change than B flat to F with out one. In the end it is the same chord. I should have added the A11 A7 and A at the bottom. I think I left it like that to show that a capo was used. Notice they all have a 3 in common? Anyway A is X02220 A11 is just open strings with A as the base note and A7 is X02020. As for the Green Fields tab, feel free to send in your own tab. I'd like to see what you come up with. I did it that way to give it a slower feeling. I think maybe it's properly done as a lot of whole chord changes from F to C to G back to C for one count. I thought it made it better to use suspended C chords for one count. This continues the ring of the strings on the guitar better. For me anyway. Violins don't really make chords and the other orchestra instruments were droning in the background. Maybe you have other ideas. That's what Majicat is for.

I gotta admit that the song is pretty tricky regarding the base notes. I tried to translate it as good as possible to the guitar. Will send in the tab to Christine. Here's a little preview (of couse, the spacing will be messed up. Will turn out correctly on the tab page then, I hope):

Thanks Christine. For some reason it got labeled wrong. Jackey~ I'll sit down soon and try your tab. Thanks for the addition. It's always nice to see others interpretations. In the mean time let me know what you think of OVY. I think it turned out pretty good considering my cronic mistakes. There should be nothing wrong with the tab though. It is as close as I can get it. To me it wipes out the need for other instruments. Which is handly if it's only just 1 person with a guitar. The original is always better. I always try to do tabs as I believe the song was originally created before adding embellishments. You know, as Yusuf may have started creating the first parts of the song alone in his home, or on a train.

I really like your OVY version. It's better than the original. Haven't had a look into details yet. Will do so though, later. It's so much more Yusuf's style to play it like you do I think. I know that Alun played it slightly different (though also with capo). I think your version is really how Yusuf would have approached it from the very beginning.

I can't wait to see it. It has a really nice walking base line in it. It sounds like one guitar. I'll take my computer with me on my trip. But unfortunately won't beable to take my guitar.

BTW, what strings do you use for your Ovation?
|
|
|
Post by workahollis1 on Mar 30, 2008 15:41:40 GMT -5
I use D'Addario EJ16 Phosphor Bronze Light Acoustic Guitar Strings. They are the recommended strings for the Ovation. Also they are direct replacements for when I changed my strings from the original. They are the strings with the colored ends. I usually buy them by the 3 pack.

My Ovation came with the enhanced D'Addario EXP strings. They were OK, but then I tried Gibson and Elixir. Elixir has an awesome sound and longevity!

Maybe your Ovation needs a different type. Mine has a deep bowl I don't know what type you have. If you have deep bowl try the strings I have. Also mine is only a year old so maybe they string them with the EJ16s' I have now. As for longevity I still change my strings every 4 to 6 months regardless. This way I can apply oil to the fretboard and bridge to keep it conditioned.
