hey there. How do you get the chat room to work? I clicked on it but all I get is a little box that will not expand for me. Do you have to be a member for awhile for this to work?

You have to register for chat separately from the message boards. They run on different software. But you may have to download a java system. Someone else would be able to explain more that I can.

First off, welcome to Majicat Avalon :-)

It sounds like you clicked on the Who's Chatting link instead of the chatroom link. Click on the MAJICAT CHAT picture and it will take you to chatroom. Follow the instructions on the new chat page. You will have to REGISTER to use the chatroom. The messageboard and chatroom are on separate databases. Good Luck, I hope to see you in chat

PS.. the Who's Chatting link is used to see who is already in the chatroom.

Surph, the chat program has been updated to version 8, and because of it, you may need to update your java. Also, if you are using msn or aol browser, the java doesn't work properly so you will need to open another window in either Foxfire or I.E.

I wonder if it might be possible to add something to your homepage (like a shout box) so that people can alert each other if they want to chat, or announce things quickly. The chat room here is not so prominent, or easy to use. Though I do appreciate it!

Good point, Lucy. Weirdest chatroom ever.

Here's the best and easiest chatroom, from one Dylan Forum; in the top right corner, in the "Latest users:" section, the username that has a little yellow smiley next to him is in the chatroom. It just takes one click on "chat", and you're in. Simple as that.

MAJICHAT VERSION 8.0: 11/02/06
The chat system that I use for Majchat upgraded to version 8.0, and there seems to be a few cliches to work out. You'll probably notice that that there is just a gray box where the chat should be. You'll have to update your java program to use the chat. Follow these instructions.

1: Empty your browser's cache, then shutdown all open browsers before testing the update.
2: Ensure that you have the latest version of Java by visiting www.java.com/

I tested both Foxfire and I.E. they both worked after I emptied my cache and updated my java, to run the new chat. But, the java box doesn't appear on the MSN browser, so it probably won't work for aol either. If you are using either of these browser, please resort to using IE or Foxfire

REGISTRATION:
You will need to register to use this room. If you have a username on the Majicat Message board, it will not work here.This java chat is on a different data base from the message board. Therefore you will need to register here or above using the register button on the applet, before entering the chat room. Have Fun Chatting!

Problems seeing the Chat Applet?
If for some reason the chat applet doesn't load for you. You will need to go to this site www.java.com/en/ and click on the free download to install java.

ctrl C = Copy
ctrl V = Paste



Buttons in the Chat:
1) Change color of your text
2) Bold text
3) Italics Text
4) Underline text
5) Smilie Button
6)Time Button = add time to chat
7) Enlarge Font Size Button
8) Decrease Font Size Button
9) Float and Dock Screen Button
10) Log Out Button

Suggested Chat Schedules:

SUNDAY and WEDNESDAY

Scheduled for Europeans time:
3:00pm EST or 8:00pm GMT

Later Evening for North, Central & South America :
9:00pm EST or 6:00pm PST --- approximately 10:00 AM in Western Australia - 3:00pm Monday in New Zealand"

Hi Lucy, yep it's a quiet room. It's never been a popular feature here on Majicat. It's only used here and there at best.

As for a shout box, hmmmm. I thought about your suggestion, but I'm not really keen on shout boxes. It's best to just try to organize chat times/dates.
