.Hi to everyone Im writing to tell you about my first and only CAT concert that I ever expirienced. Unforgettable as it is for everyone who has witnesed this man live. Australia 21st August 1972 ( I have still got the calender in my diary marked from 1972 ) arrives in Sydney. His arrival made such an impact everywhere, from the radio ,TV, Newspapers, pop magazines . I don't think there was anyone who didn't know The Cat had arrived. I was living in Melbourne at the time and having to wait till September to see him live felt like a life time. Thursday September the 7th finally came. At school I was counting the hours. It was like countdown. After went to help at my parents shop with my older sister.I was 14 and my sister 18.Thank god I had older sister other wise I wouldn't have been allowed to go on my own. Festival Hall was only about a 20 minute walk away.Walking very fast the exitement was really building up that we didn't feel a bit the winter cold. When we arrived there was a very long que. The waiting was all worth it though because you could feel all this energy building up in this enormous hall that when Cat got on stage the audience just went wild. (if I remember I think Jethro Tull was a supporting act) As I wrote in my 'intrduce yourself' when I came to Greece to live the only things of cat meemories were my LPs and two tapes of that concert.Every article and posters I had collected are in box back back in OZ. I must confess I dont know if it was allowed but I bought a smalltape recorder with me and taped the concert. I have kept it for myself and have only shared it with my sister who was a big fan as well.I would like to share this tape with other members of this site if I can manage this as Im not the best with computers. If my son inlaw can help I will do my best. The concert begins with THE WIND MOONSHADOW WHERE DO THE CHILDREN PLAY LADY DARBANVILLE WILD WORLD SILENT SUNLIGHT MILES FROM NOWWHERE MORNING HAS BROKEN ON THE ROAD TO FIND OUT PEACE TRAIN INTO WHITE SITTING SAD LIZA 18TH AVENUE HARD HEADED WOMAN CANT KEEP IT IN IF I LAUGH WIGWAM FATHER AND SON ENCORE - TUESDAYS DEAD -ENCORE- SITTING - FINALE-BITTERBLUE The sound quality isnt the best as you can understand but the the memories that flood in my head are can never be forgotten. Just listening to his voice vibrating through you and his incedible wit so glad that I have this tape to remember. I think my login time is ruuning out . better ost this in case I LOSE it and login again. As I said Im new at this downunder72

just change it to "log in forever". the first and last time I'd logged in here was on the registration day.

Its me again downuner72 . The reason I really love this tape is because I can hear me and my sisters remarks and sighs of excitement and the applauds, the stomping of thousands of feet making the whole place tremble and sending shivers.Towards the end when everyone after FATER AND SON went crazy he remarked "I thought you quiet passive lot and you turned out to be Blood, Sweat, and Tears." The applauds standing ovations just wouldnt stop and then Tuesdays Dead started bringing the house down.It was unbelievable.I just get goose bumps thinking about it. Those were the days . How luckey I was to be part of this one in alife time expirience. I wonder if another oz member was there on that night. I would love to know . Maybe I bought back some memories of that magic night..
That night when we got home me and my sister went to the bathroom ( it was the only place we could go that was the furthest from were the rest of the family was sleeping ) plugged in the tape recorder and listened to the concert again. We were singing and getting high on his music till the morning when mum knocked on the door and wondeering why we got up so early to go to school. Little did she know. We got dreesed and left for school with cat still playing in my head and a big smile on my face and on cloud nine.My best day at school.......memories , memories,................
Peace and Happiness to all...........downunder72

Hi Vivian , I feel quite honoured having you reply to my post. After months of browsing on majicat I realized what a late starter I was and how much I had missed out on. But that was because we wre late getting a computer in the house. I see you go a long way back and you have contributed an amazing amount. I too want to share this tape but as I said I will have to get some outside help.It might take some time but I will find a way.. I live in a small town in Greece and the internet is the best thing that has happened. God bless the internet. Its opened a whole new world for me and you dont feel so isolated anymore...
Thankyou Vivienne P.S Is it against the law to download this . Please let me know.

Hello Glaucus. Part of the tape got chewed up by the recorder and I dont remember which songs might be missing. The songs I have written above are all on the tape but because he did 18th Avenue , SWEET SCARLET AND THE BOY WITH THE MOON AND STAR , could have been the ones lost. How sad if this happened and because I dont remember I'll never know.. Cath bull at Four was released SEPT.72 so he may have. WHAT LUCK. You've got me thinking now.....Whats the difference ,they've gone if they were on .....darn

Actually... I was kindly offered the chance to clean up the audio of these files so that Vicki could share them as she wanted to! The problem was that it developed into a mammoth task and has been on the back-burner while I've been doing simpler things. It feels like I say this too often, but my health is a big factor in all I do - and the bigger the project the longer I take! And it's certainly not that I don't want to finish this - it's a true labor of love to work on! However, I MUST apologise because it HAS taken too long and Vicki has been all too kind with her patience. I've got a number of Cat related projects to do - I hope I can achieve and share them all in time! Stay tuned! All good wishes. All good thoughts. Ciao for now! Jon

How's Wigwam live?

No, not the tape, but a burnt copy of it. Wigwam is cool!! Nevertheless, the audio quality is poor and so it's difficult to improve upon. It's an absolute gem of a concert though and if your ears can accept that it's easy to appreciate how good it was AND how fortunate Vicki and her sister were to see it

Vicki, you did say you don't mind this being shared. I don't know if you managed to use the link I gave you? But I think you'd agree, now is a good time to share what's there So, my gratitude for being able to experience this and my apologies for not being able to improve on the audio a great deal. However, I was able to take out most of the noise. AND, I'm sorry to all that this isn't the whole of the concert (yet). I can only work a very small amount at a time on rare occasions. Still, a good portion of it IS uploaded and while it's lacking in quality, this is a rare jewel for the 'records' Happy listening and again, many thanks to Vicki!!! www.box.net/shared/u2vzornzre

I agree the time is right. If I had the knowhow, I would have shared this concert on the board from day one. I did send cds of the concert to ever I could, but this is a much better way for all to listen. Once again, thankyou for all your hard work, and effort to clean up my tapes. I know it was a real struggle for you at times, and for this I am forever grateful. Happy listening to everyone, and enjoy Cat in concert, Melbournes Festival Hall 1972. I would be thrilled to know if anyone who saw Yusuf in concert at the ROD LAVER yesterday was also there at Festival Hall 1972. You will hear for yourself, Yusuf today is sounding better than ever.!!! Thankyou Jon, take care, you're the best.
