Moon & Star Petition and Dick Clark questions

Hi everyone,
I'm very concerned about a few things regarding the much loved concert and the long lived petition.

As most would be aware, it has been 8 years since the petition began and I don't know all that's taken place between then and now, but I DO know that to get the next 248 (as of today) signatures it would mean a wait of another couple of years!

Not only are all of us fans getting older (as Vicki stated well and clear with her signing), but Dick Clark himself is not so well these days and isn't getting any younger either - he's nearly 80 years old!

So, I see 3 scenarios:
1. We get enough signatures - sadly, if every member would have signed already, we'd have 1,275 signatures from Majicatters alone!
Unfortunately, many join only briefly and wouldn't have known about the petition.
Although, it strikes me as almost woeful that in 8 years we don't even have ONE thousand signatures.
If it were able somehow to be taken to the streets, I'm sure there'd be more than enough to give a compelling argument.
As it stands, it looks a pretty poor thing to take to Mr Clark with it having taken so long - and I don't mean any offense to anyone by saying this, so I'm sorry to anyone if it might seem so.

2. Mr Dick Clark passes away and the chance of the release of the Moon & Star Concert gets well and truly tied up legally for another unknown amount of years...

3. The petition is taken to Mr Dick Clark now - short of the 1,000 signature goal, but while there's still time for him to be made aware of the situation, because these days, I would imagine it's not so difficult to release a DVD and I doubt that it would take much convincing for him to know that his say so would make so many of us very happy (indeed, many more than those fans who have already signed the petition),

I also would like to ask that if these ideas are NOT agreeable, that other majicatters put your ideas and suggestions forward so that we can get somewhere before it really is too late for some of us.

So, keeping in mind all the hard work of others (behind the scenes as much of it would be), here's to (hopefully) a renewed drive to get this concert released and enjoyed by thousands

I've been in the process of downloading the 700 plus signatures into word. But with that many signatures, it's time consuming. I'll send them to Mr. Clark & ABC when that is finished.

I wouldn't put to much into the petition though, it was in the beginning meant as a petition to revive the old concert, but it also was meant as a way for people to place their memories of the concert up.

As time went on, I had found out sad news of a fire where the master wheel was stored and had been destroyed. If this is true, I don't know. We'll see. But that is the rumor I keep receiving.

So I just kept the petition as a way for people to voice their opinion of the well loved old film.

I think a good idea would be to write a comment on YouTube and get other fans to sign the petition. A good idea would be to spam his most viewed videos such as wild world.

This is an excellent idea, because for one thing somehow I am just not convinced that the master is gone for good. I few years ago, someone was claiming to have a master wheel of this concert and was selling it on E Bay. Unfortunately, it was WAY out of my budget, as it went for over 1,000 dollars. What I'm trying to say is that SOMEONE out there has a complete master copy of this great show.

Somewhere on the petition is a journalist claiming he interviewed director Joshua White. According to White, the masters were erased by ABC in the late 70s - early 80s. White was able to copy most of the shows for his own collection before this shamefull decision by ABC . So anyway, that's one source. And like I said before, I'm sure there are quite a few copies collecting dust on the shelves of various international broadcasters.

However, I am not holding my breath!

Oh Christine! That's some sad news! I hope you're right Vivian - it's very odd if the ebay master was authentic, nothing has filtered down to any knowledge base since.
According to Wikipedia's data base Glaucus, Don Kirshner created the in concert series and handed it over to Dick Clark in late 1973 - I wonder then if Don Kirshner would have any rights to Moon & Star as he appears to have handed the show to Dick Clark in sept 73 and from what I can make out, Don Kirshner over-saw a few more concerts after september that year.

I've found two sites selling Moon & Star on DVD recently, I wonder if anyone here has dealt with either of these online stores to know if they could prove reliable sources? Here are the links:

If the first link can be believed, it reports the concert to be in near mint condition...

Also, as most of us are aware, socialisto75 has posted the concert on youtube and his is the only source I know of - I've tried to contact him about them but unfortunately, he's not replied to my last 2 posts.
There is a better copy of 'Morning has broken' at Veoh by a person called Sallustus, only his copy, while better, mistakenly shows the date of the concert (on the actual video footage) as 1971.
So, there's yet another possible version and/or source. Does anyone know of this person?
And, I may as well ask... does anyone know of, or have a better quality version than socialisto75?

And while I like your idea too scarfizzle - re the youtube petition, I wouldn't want to personally go 'spamming' the site - maybe I'm misunderstanding you about this, but to my limited understanding, spamming wouldn't be very fitting.

And lastly, Christine, I do feel for you! It's not until it's pointed out, that the work involved in downloading all those signatures hits home!
I wonder if there's a piece of software that could download it all automatically?

Anyway, I sure hope we can keep striving and be on the look-out for leads! Seeming we're global, is it possible that links could be followed up within the said country any current or possible lead might point?
