you can download this which I made by translating the windows formatted file buyfriendly.com/peacetrain.mp3I will take some time to download...but it should work with any mp3 player If double clicking on this file after downloading it does not seem to work then you can download a windows-compatible player here: prdownloads.sourceforge.net/zinf/zinf-setup-2.2.1.exeyou can download it by clicking on this link. then you can run it to install it and then after installing it you can double click on the mp3 and play it There should be a mac mp3 player..if it's not already built in but I don't know too much about macs. I would discourage from using microsoft products but if you have not real choice this I think is the best compromize...I translated to mp3 because I know it's much more playable. Sorry about the large size but I did not want it to lose any of it's sound quality in translation. peace 2 u, -anwar as far as putting it on CD I don't know really.

I noticed they had a nice little article in my home town paper today in the 'People in the News' section. "Artist formerly Known as Cat Stevens records anti-war songs." It's an Associated Press article so it probably ran country wide. Still it was nice to see it in my little dinky hometown paper. Anyone else see it in their local newspapers?

Interesting how they labeled it. They could have said 're-recorded old classic' but that doesn't sound rationary enough I guess.
Oh well, glad to have the new song.

I haven't checked any newspapers yet, just internet news sites and its on alot of those. What section in the physical newspapers is it in? So far the coverage seems to be pretty much straight from the press release (of course with the annoying SR reference thrown in). It's nice that Yusuf is getting recognition Hope it stays positive. Looks like we will have to get used to sharing Yusuf with the world ... oh, okay ... allright

Same here Sue, Page 2 in the first section of the paper under the people in the news section. I agree sad they had to bring up the S.R. affair to put a dimmer on the article.

Darn, y'all are making me wish I had subscribed to the paper. I am sure my friend in Chicago will end up catching it....If that happens she will send it to me. You know, it is a shame that Yusuf's name and Salman's name seem to always be mentioned in the same sentence...talk about not letting things die. I just hope no one tries to spoil Yusuf's message with those stupid false accusations that seem to keep popping up, especially sense Yusuf has proved himself honorable over and over again. And Hummingbird, I appreciate your kind words, I am much better. It has been a tedious two weeks. Love, A'isha

I was out of town over the weekend (down your way, Christine ;D ) so I caught up on my newspapers this evening; I found the following small article in the "People" column of the entertainment section in Saturday's Plain Dealer:
Protest Songs
Yusuf Islam, formerly known as pop singer Cat Stevens, has recorded two songs to express his opposition to a U.S.-led war on Iraq. One song is a rerecording of his '70s hit "Peace Train." The other, "Angel of War," reworks his melancholy love song "Lady D'Arbanville." "As a member of humanity and as a Muslim, this is my contribution to the call for a peaceful solution to the dangerous path some world leaders today seem to be taking," he said in a statement posted on his Web site.
Islam, who was born Stephen Georgiou, took Cat Stevens as a stage name and had a string of hits in the early 1970s. He abandoned his music career in 1977 and changed his name after being persuaded by Orthodox Muslim teachers that his lifestyle was forbidden by Islamic law. He later became a teacher and an advocate for his religion, founding a Muslim school in 1983. Islam made headlines when he supported the death sentence issued by Iran against author Salman Rushdie for his book "The Satanic Verses."

Jan, the article in my paper was pretty much the same, except it had two or three extra paragraphs included in it. It ended by saying that both 'Peace Train' and 'Angels of War' will be shipped to radio stations around the world.

Is there any way we can organize something to contact these papers to make them retract the last statement. It takes away from everything Yusuf Islam is trying to do...almost to the point of sabotage. We don't want his efforts to oppose the war and call for peace clouded by stuff that should not matter anymore, especially false information.
Jan, is there an address to that newspaper where we can write to them...snail mail or e-mail will suffice.
Love, A'isha

Aisha, since items of this nature come from the AP wire, I'm afraid contacting the newspaper wouldn't accomplish much. I'm not even sure that contacting the Associated Press would do any good either...
The situation in question happened 14 years ago - it no longer qualifies as news, but rather is history. I know that there are those who take issue with the way it was reported at the time, but there's no going back and retracting it at this point.
A more constructive approach to take, however, is spreading the word of the good things that Yusuf HAS accomplished; it can help to counteract any past negative press...

Jancat, there is really no problem with your suggestion. I have devoted many years to promoting the man's good nature. Obsession can be quite helpful to some folks. Love, A'isha

Love, A'isha I highly doubt we could ever get a retraction, but we can ALWAYS write to our editor complaining about it, and then HOPE they print our letter!! That's what I would do, to EVERY SINGLE PAPER who printed a nasty remark! But also, it is a good idea to thank the ones who made POSITIVE statements!! Peace,Vivian

Xzylophone!! (sp!)
Has anyone heard the xzylophone bits in the song? Does anyone know how to spell xzylophone?
Anyway...there's a little tinkling sound about 2 minutes into the song and again towards the end...very cool. Love it.

The kalimba (also called mbira, likembe or thumb piano) is a plucked idiophone unique to Africa and widely distributed throughout the continent. It is commonly played as an accompaniment to song, but in some areas it is used for purely instrumental music. Kalimbas have played a part in African culture for 800 years. After work in the evening, Africans sit in a circle, tell beautiful stories, sing and play kalimba. They are also used to pass the time on long journeys on foot.
The kalimba consists of a set of tuned metal or bamboo tongues of varying length fitted to a board, box or calabash resonator, their free ends being twanged by the player's thumbs and fingers. Board mounted kalimbas are often played inside gourds or bowls for increased resonance.
This information came from africantreasures.net

I finally got to hear this song!! ;D It's really moving, and so beautiful, especially today, with the news of probable war. It gave me goosebumps.
I was surprised at how full it sounded. I mean, I knew it just had percussion on it, and was curious as to how it would sound. But all those beautiful voices blending and harmonizing really gave it an amazing sound. And at the end, when he says "come take me home again, come take me home" with the voices fading behind him, it just made me want to cry. So beautiful.
Love, Alicia
