Isn't it wonderful LadyD? I love all the blended voices together and the Arabic. Yusuf has out done himself.

You know, his voice sounds better now than on the original "Peace Train"...He is totally amazing. I love it, all that harmony and the percussion is cool. Now that arrangement is to die for, I really love the way that bass voice comes in at various portions of the song....
If you think I am enthusiastic I am nothing compared to what Vivian will have to say...
HE'S STILL GOT IT, Y'ALL!!!!
Love, A'isha

It said it was playing, but I didn't hear anything at all, (yes, I checked the volume). i wonder why it won't play I'm just dying to hear it!! I may just have to wait until they play it on the radio. Does anyone know when the stations will get ahold of it? I would assume today, but who knows. Did you try all the different formats Moonshadow?

That's absolutely beautiful! Yusuf, singing and speaking softly, all the other beautiful voices, the rhythm and the harmonies - just great!
I don't know if there are any other Paul Simon fans on Majicat but the arrangement of the new 'Peace Train' reminds me a lot of 'Homeless' from Paul's "Graceland" album, co-written in English and in Zulu with Joseph Shabalala, lead singer of the South African a capella group Ladysmith Black Mambazo, and performed entirely without instruments or percussion.
Love, Sanna

Very nice. Though my first thought was "Lion King". No, really I like the new "Peace Train". A lot of heart and work went into it, you can tell. Lilywhite: Cat Music? Hmm... I'll have to go back and take a look! Interesting.

Ok, I am back I had to go to work amongst all this excitement, can you believe it??
Anyway, I just took another listen to it, and I just love it. It reminds me of something that would be in the world music section of the music stores. Which I happen to love to listen to.
It is such a heart felt message. When Yusuf repeats 'Take this country..... take me home again' over and over again at the end of the song, with such a soft voice, it really tears at my heart. This is a truely wonderful rendition, and even though I loved the original, this one seems so much more from the heart.

Well, even after only one listen I can tell I could get really hooked on this song. First it's nice and long (hehe...you all know how short songs irk me!) and it's got such a great beat! I think you're right Christine...world music is where it would fit. It's unique, inspiring, powerful and superbly crafted!! Fantastic

Just breathtaking. I too, am a fan of "Ladysmith" and my first thought is that it is them. I would love to find out. This is the perfect blend of old and new. I think he just may have a "hit" on his hands. WOW, he comes back in with a "bang"
~~cheers MK

It's interesting that you thought of Ladysmith Black Mambazo too, Miss Kitty! Don't they have fantastic voices?! The singers on 'Peace Train' do sound very similar but I don't think they are Ladysmith - I guess it's just the traditional Zulu style of singing they have in common. Aren't there also female voices to the end of 'Peace Train'? I think world music has been a songwriting inspiration for Paul since 'El Condor Pasa' and 'Celia' from the last Simon & Garfunkel album "Bridge over Troubled Water", and he has continued this idea with every album since. I feel Paul's world music is a great contribution to peace, as it dissolves borders and unites and connects people - a true 'Bridge over Troubled Water' - and so is Yusuf's 'Peace Train'. Love, Sanna

Lucy, something interesting: the composer who worked on 'The Lion King' also, 10 years earlier, did a wonderful score for another movie, about a South African boxer. It's all African music and very beautiful -- so I'm not surprised you made that connection between the new Peace Train and 'The Lion King'. I guess you're not an idiot after all !! LOL!! (just teasing ;D) And 'Cat Music' is/was Cat's own music publishing co from that previous life, it's on alot of his earlier work too, nothing new there, sorry! In fact, these ARE old compositions, they're probably already, uh, registered? with Cat Music anyway, as opposed to MOL. LadyD, more obviously: What idiot wouldn't make the connection between lions and Africa? Well, I know there are some subspecies of lions in India, but.. you know, by and large, lions are associated with Africa. Anyway, thanks for the composer information! And thanks for the reminder about "Cat Music". Sheesh, what an idiot I am!

You know, "PT" reminded me of Neil Diamond's "Tap Root Manuscript" album. It has one side which is called "The African Trilogy" which is all African influenced music. And it does remind me of some of "The Lion King"...
Another of my boring stories....LOL Yesterday I was totally depressed, I am talking the type of depression that scares the daylights out of you....low down low, in the pits of mire low....you get how low I am sure by now. Well, nothing much would help the blues. I poured my soul out to a couple of my Cat buddies...boo-hoo, poor A'isha-type stuff, 'A'isha is so unappreciated'-type stuff. I spouted off at the husband, snapped at the girls..was a total drone. Well, I got home from the school and ran to the computer to hear "Peace Train" and when I listened to it my whole feeling changed. I had snapped out of my depressed state and spent most of the evening laughing with my girls. Yes, that man still has the power to pull me out of one of 'my moods'...He still has ‘the touch’.
Love, A'isha

Okay, just listened to it again and LOUD this time. Wow...what a production!!! I hadn't really heard the parts where he speaks before ...the slight fade at the end is just gorgeous.
It's definately a "sit down and listen to" song. Impossible not to 'tune-in' to. You know...I really think this WILL get some radio play.
