polygor, how is the quality of the video on the DVD? is it worth upgrading from the VHS tape? cos I can put that on a DVD myself.
Shame they didn't include more songs (if there were any!) or some extras of some kind.....

@ sunspark
Sorry to have misled you but it was my way of saying that I won't be buying it on account of the short running time.

I finally got a copy on DVD a month ago... It has my favorite version of the song, "On the Road to Find Out!" I just love when he sings with the, "Ah. ah. aah, ah. ah. aah..." sounds

In my opinion the DVD quality isn't very good. Definitely looks like it 2nd or 3rd generation from tape. But that might be all they had to work with. I admit being a bit disappointed at the short length and quality. Think of how much more footage can fit on a disk!

Recieved my TFTT DVD today. Loved every minute of it. Can't get over that someone so young, could write and sing songs with so much wisdom and maturity and passion. Way ahead for his years. I don't know how comfortable he must have been with the audience so close . Loved the way his face glowed with radiant youthfulness. His skin looked so warm, and his cheeks slightly red, it could have been the effects of the studio lighting, but I think it was due to his apparent shyness. The same shyness I saw on the Porchester Hall DVD. This must be the real CS/YI.
Is the short clip of CS singing 'MOONSHADOW' just before the Teaser animation film, from the ABC 'MOON AND STAR' concert?
I'm still very happy with the DVD, even if it was short, and the quality wasn't the best. It's still another CS gem everyone should have in their collection.

Thankyou Glaucus. Maybe it's a small preview of what might be coming. Could they be teasing us? ;D Keeping my fingers crossed.

It would be nice Vicki, but the DVD is just a re-issue of the video that seemed to be in every music store not too many years ago. I've had it in my possession since 1996 and there's absolutely no difference between the 2. I'm glad you enjoyed it so much - I think he was in better voice then than in the Majicat concert, but the atmosphere and presence and repertoire of songs on the Majicat DVD are quite magical - true to name I feel. I still hope for the ABC Concert to surface too! That little snippet before and after the Moonshadow cartoon, are my favourite parts of TFTT Live - it's just wonderful and all of us who have heard the concert in full, can attest to its brilliance. I have wondered though - I've not heard of any reference to it ever! but while the audio of the full concert seems complete, I would love to know if the actual live version of Moonshadow was performed? It may be that it was performed in full live, but television viewers saw it replaced with the cartoon version and only the audience got to see the live version. I wonder if anyone here can shed some light on this??? It's great that we have much more audio versions of songs now, but sad that the best performances of his career were either never captured on film or destroyed for one reason or another Those Troubadour and the unknown 'road to find out performance concerts are just exceptional and breath-taking - worth buying the album for those 3 songs alone! Sorry to go off-topic to this post (really unwell today, so easier to just write this all here). I was given a 12 month subscription last christmas to Rolling Stone (the Australian version). I received the last issue 2 days ago. In all those 12 months, Cat Stevens was never mentioned! This issue was a special issue with the best 50 Voices of all time... Dylan, Jagger, Tina Turner, Bowie, Van Morrison, Janis Joplin all scored well. Kurt Cobain, George Jones and Dusty Springfield made it in too. Cat Stevens? No. Most of those 12 issues bored me silly - it was a nice thought for a gift, but Rolling Stone Magazine has lost its magic for me. I will fondly remember the day when Cat was on the cover! It would be interesting to hear if the U.S. Rolling Stone mag has been all that much different to its Aussie ones. That's me done! Must end. Must go. Bye for now

Bye for now Jonathan, I'm sorry to hear you're not feeling well today. I'm also sorry to say that the US issue of Rolling Stone [with the 100 so-called best vocalists of all time] also neglected to mention C.S. Dylan was #7, which still blows my mind. Hope you are feeling much better soon! joni...

Yusuf was, however, one of the voters in the US edition. And in the correspondence section of the current US RS (with Brad Pitt on the cover), one Will Keresztes of Buffalo, NY writes the following: The voters were distinguished, but I urge you to let the readers decide next time. How coulld a list of singers from the rock era exclude Grace Slick, Ann Wilson or Cat Stevens? -Joanne

And I should have also mentioned that Nina Simone [one of C.S.'s favorites] made the list. The letter-writer was right: let the readers decide next time. joni...

They may pretend CS never existed, but little do they know if it was up to the public to decide, they would be in for a surprise. Maybe that's the way it suits them. Who cares anyway, we all know how great CS was.

Helen, yes I did recieve my TFTT DVD, and I enjoyed every minute as I mentioned on page 1 of this thread. I also recieved the TFTT Deluxe Edition CD. It was an expirience that I haven't felt for a long time. All my old CS music are vinyls, which I can't play anymore, as my stereo does not work. Being able to listen to these unforgetable treasures once again on a CD, and a quality that is far improved compared to my crackling vinyls, made it a wonderful journey back to the golden days of CS. Many of the bonus tracks were a first time for me, which made it extra special.

Bringing this back up as I've found a short newspaper review of the show in the Google news archives. It's dated October 20, 1971 and is from the Montreal Gazette, my neck of the woods, neat! --------------------------------------------------------- Stevens, Russel, simply a wonderful showBy L. Ian MacDonald, TV & Radio column So this guy saw the KCET "Full Circle" show in its entirety, including Cat, Leon Russel and other "Friends". I have a black and white copy of the Cat Stevens segment where you can hear "Hard Headed Woman" in its entirety, without superimposed credits, as opposed to the official "Tea For The Tillerman" cassette/DVD where the song fades out before the end. It would be nice to have the entire thing reissue. And it makes you wonder, were there any other Cat songs? I also note that the reviewer saw this on our semi-local PBS station, WETK-33 in Burlington VT! At that time, we only had an old B&W TV set with rabbit ears, no outdoor antenna so no access to the US border stations. Anyway, I was just 6 years old!

"I don't know if you've heard, or heard of, Cat Stevens..." Unbelievable! Hard to imagine a day before Cat Stevens was iconic. This article is a wonderful glimpse into his dawning days. Thanks, Glaucus.
