"A short message from Yusuf Islam supporting peace and commenting on recent events will be read at the London Concert For Peace on Sunday 23rd March."
I hope that Yusuf will post his message on his web site. I want to hear what he has to say. Surely he will display it! It's not right to tell us about his speech and not let us read or listen to it. Why tell us about it to entice us and keep us from it? We can't travel to the event. I'm waiting anxiously to hear all about this message.
Vivian, I'll be the next one going bald!

Viv, I am sure Yusuf will post it there or at MOL...He posts most of his high-profile speeches on the sites.
Now, go get you some wax to shine that bald head.

You know, I just love what Yusuf is doing. May God be with him. It is a fantastic thing.
Folks, if you haven't read the article yet I want you to know that there is a picture of Yusuf performing with the South African singers. Vivian, get a grip before you see it. It is a awesome photo.

Did you notice that the press release indicated there's a "video clip" for the new "Peace Train"?? I'd love to see that!

Jan, I am dying to see it. I keep watching VH1 in the mornings in hopes that they may talk about it, possibly showing us a tidbit or two. I think the latest article said that both "Peace Train" and "Angel Of War" will be released as singles soon.

Salaam alaykom and greetings,
Am I the only Ami that receives Arab satellite TV?
I am watching to see if Br Y shows up on one of the Dubai channels due to his performances there on the 27th and 28th.

Salaam alaykom and greetings,
That's the plan, Stan.
I am working on being notified when Br Y will appear on Arab TV. His Dubai Business Channel debut a while back was in English, so hopefully this will continue to be the case for the time being... until he becomes fluent in Arabic, that is.
Oh, I didn't get to tape the DBC appearance because it was a complete surprise and also quite short. Since Br Y is 12 hours ahead of us in CA, my husband was watching TV in the early morning our time and I was asleep on the couch. I was awakened by my husband yelling "Brother Yusuf! Brother Yusuf!" Since it was a live appearance on the local Dubai news program, there was apparently no rebroadcast. I am working also to get a copy of this appearance from Dubai.
I promise to send it to Christine when I am successful. When this will be, only Allah knows, since I am dependent on 'continually on-the-go internationally known former popstar' time.
Peace, kareema

Thank You Kareema, I figured you would get the very not-so-subtle hint. And about Yusuf and Arabic....When does an non-Arab actually master the Arabic language? It is the hardest language to learn with all of those weird sounding letters. Love, A'isha

Salaam alaykom and greetings, 'continually on-the-go internationally known former popstar' time. LOL. This is a 2 dimensional time, seeing as the time is place dependant also. Kind of as if Yusuf were the second hand on a clock showing the time by running aound the world. Turan ;D

Salaam alaykom and greetings, Believe it or not, my husband the former Gulf journalist has actually offered his input to Br Yusuf re success in the Arab world and media, ie, 'fitting in'. Br Y has most graciously accepted the none-too-subtly offered (you know what I mean, A'isha!) advice. First on the list, learn Arabic so that he can speak directly to his audience without the aid of an interpreter. My husband is very impressed with Br Y's pronunciation on his Islamic recordings... the first time he heard Br Y recite Qur'an, he was unaware that the person reciting was not a native speaker. Therefore my husband believes that Br Y has a good running start at the Arabic language. Add to that Br Y's perfectionistic streak and if anyone can 'master' Arabic, it'll be Br Y. Turan, you know I never really thought about it this way, however your idea seems very plausible to me. It certainly feels that way at times... he's here, he's there, he's everywhere. Hmmm, you do work in a bakery, don't you, Vivian... I wonder if we could drop ship to Dubai? Peace, kareema

Hey, Let's all nab Vivian, a ship, and her donuts and pay Yusuf a little visit. It is best to go now because in the summer the temps in Dubai shoot up to 125 degrees.
Kareema, with Yusuf being the perfectionist he is, he would have to retire from his humanitarian efforts to devote full time to learning Arabic. He would always be critical of how he spoke the language. Also he would get alot of critique from the people there and their way is sometimes offensive, (even though they don't mean to be offensive...) they will make fun of his attempts. At least that has been my experience when speaking Arabic around Arabs. I speak it some, but am so shy now to attempt it in the presence of another Arab. "A'isha, it isn' gain, it is ghayne...are you a habeela or something?" LOLOLOL
Love, A'isha

I figure an ear for the details of music is good training for learning different sounds in a language.
My grandfather spoke fairly good Arabic. He also spoke Farsi very well, at the intellectual level along with marketplace (what my mom speaks). He was a flutest. His native tongue was German.
He learned in complete submersion, no translators available. He studied hard.
Seems Yusuf is well placed for complete submersion if he wishes. We know his ability to hear small differences in sounds.

My husband once listened to Yusuf (his jealousy makes him avoid Yusuf...LOL...just kidding) and he thought Yusuf recited the Qur'an beautifully. You know, that is a compliment coming from one of the world's biggest critics.
