Hey everyone, contact your senators and congressman. Remember when Cat Stevens was coming to the US a couple of years ago, and his plane was forced to land and he was sent back to England because he might be a terrorist? That had to be one of the most embarrassing times to be a US citizen. Now, to show that we have turned our backs on the hate and fear of the Bush administration, we should bring Cat Stevens/ Yusuf Islam to Washington DC for the Obama inauguration! He can sing "Peace Train", there could be Sufi dancers, and we could regain the respect of the world! What do you think??

Although this event would leave a mark in time, and it would be one that I would not want to miss, I don't know if he should take such a political position. Even though I feel the best man won, and YI has expressed his positive feelings towards Obama, and they seem to be on the same level of thinking, I would hate for it to do more harm than good, to both parties. Obama has a difficult road ahead, and YI is making more of a comeback, I would hate for anything to spoil their dreams for a better world. But then again we will have to wait and see if he ever gets invited in the first place, but if he does I'm sure whatever decision YI makes, it will be the right one.

Hey go read the Obama on the Peace Train thread. I already suggested that. It would be a wonderful idea if Yusuf would be invited to sing Peace Train!

I found that would be a wonderfull idea.Maybe there will be a occation to arrange that with some other artist. It would be a rehabilitation for Yusuf and he would be coming there in a special way i think with a witticism, jest or bon word and a smile from here to eternety. Can imagine it and see it before my eyes. But it would be a big geste to the Muslimcommunity to and Yusuf is the bridgebuilder to court.Regine

That would be fun but I hear Obama is toning down the inauguration in view of the sinking economy.

A very smart and very wise move from Obama. Well, we can forget about that dream. Maybe Obama will invite him on his birhday to sing.

That would be fun but I hear Obama is toning down the inauguration in view of the sinking economy. Obams's intentions may be wise there, but that may be easier said than done. A record number of people are expected to turn out for the inauguration, some predict in the several millions. Since this historical event is free to the public, just may make that task an almost impossible feat. Peace,Vivian

sueinhollywood isn't a member here anymore; you can tell by her username being in black, and the 'guest' thing, and the fact that you can't click on her profile, like you said... either she was banned, or she deleted her account. Long ago I was a moderator on this site, so that's the way it goes; there are only 2 options - banned, or self-banned.

About Sue, even though many might not agree, it is a shame that it came to this, either way.

I was not a supporter of Obama and I don't think the Bush administration represented hate but any means. I do appreciate the fact that Obama has asked Rick Warren to be at the inauguration. Wise choice. It would make more sense for an American artist like Springsteen to be at the inauguration, even though I disagree with his political views.

Eh, screw 'em all! Bring ME to the inauguration! LOL
Seriously, though, I would love to attend but it's nigh impossible to get proper tickets, as I'm sure everyone has heard by now.

What?! Joanne won't be at the inauguration? (oh... but if YI were there, I'm sure you'd be) ( ) I prefer not to mix my music and my party politics either. YI should stay far away from this. But THEN I want him to visit the US. Meaning US fans.

But THEN I want him to visit the US. Meaning US fans. Heehee! I love that it shocks you that I'm not going! (Yet, anyway...still trying!) LOL As for whether all performers should be from the US, eh, I dunno. It makes me think of all the First Ladies who only wore clothing made by American designers...silly, kinda. Jackie Kennedy didn't do that and she always looked lovely. (Pink Chanel suit in Nov. 1963, as it happens.) While I "get" the idea of being seen to support American businesses and all that, there's something about it that verges on xenophobia, in my humble opinion. Of course, in the case of the inauguration, I suppose it could be argued that the President has been elected to lead the US, not the world, and that the fesitivites shouold reflect that. But still I wonder... -Joanne (who is feeling exceptionally indecisive today!)

Heehee! I love that it shocks you that I'm not going! (Yet, anyway...still trying!) LOL Yep. And I just mean it kinda ruins it for me when performers/artists take sides politically. (coz what if I don't agree?) But in principle (and in general) I don't have anything against non-Americans attending inaugurations.

I heard Sting and Elvis Costello, Aretha Franklin, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Wonder, Beyonce, Barbara Streisand and I'm sure many others. I don't think they necessarily have to be American. Sting and Elvis Costello aren't, are they? I think lots of performers from everywhere are going to be at different events all around the city for the inauguration. There is even a Native American ball. Everybody is looking forward to it! Here's the link if you want tickets. Also, HBO is broadcasting events for free. www.greatseats.com/inauguration/inaugural_ball_tickets.htm
