Joanne, I haven't been able to get my hands on the article to read it in its entirety, so please excuse me for jumping to conclusions.
Whisper, if I had to be quoted every minute for ever word that popped out of my mouth I would be in a hell of a lot of trouble. You know, after seeing what Brother Yusuf has gone through I am thankful to Allah (swt) I didn't get my dream of being a Rock Star. If you think Yusuf's mouth gets him in trouble....I would be lynched and assassinated.
And Whisper, except for the reform school stuff you and I went through a similar thing. (I was a runaway) Guess who was the school's 'savior'....LOL I preached in the schoolyard damning everyone to Hell who didn't believe as I did. And if people from highschool connected me with that girl at Perry High School they could tell you a lot of stuff I wouldn't want people to remember.
You know, we hang on Yusuf's words. I know that I am very guilty of this. We hang on his words because we love and respect the man, but maybe we should stop and remind ourselves that he is not any different than the rest of us. He just has great talent and a lot of money.
And Vivian, he is great eye candy too eh? LOLOL I had to get a smile out of you Ms. Vivian.

Salaam alaykom and greetings, I checked out the MTV website for the 10,000 Maniacs article and was unable to find it there. i remember the 10,000 maniacs bit quite well. i didn't know diddly (no pun intended) about YI at that time, had no idea where he was, what he was, what he said, etc. i did however have that love of cat stevens that was always in my heart. i remember thinking there must have been some misunderstanding or something... before i knew it, i heard they were bulldozing his albums...i thought, 'this is NUTS what in the WORLD did he do?" oddly enough, i was never able to find out what the alleged indiscretion was about. goodness, how did we EVER live without the net?  ? anyway...... i think the litigation aspect may already have started working, as the only reference to cat stevens doesnt even mention cat stevens, it just says 'the track 'peace train' is no longer on this album' in the discography section. |

I hope that Yusuf will sue because if he doesn't people will continually do as they have been doing, running their mouths about heresay without 100% concrete facts. All the innuendoes and assumptions about Yusuf Islam have gone on for way too long and if getting tough will make people realize that saying slanderous things will get them in trouble I hope Yusuf cleans up the floor with those who keep the stuff going.

Your right Aisha. Unfortunately, litigation is the only thing that works sometimes. At least for now, he's put the media "on notice" That in itself may deter some of the 'cheap shots' that some of these publications and websites are so quick to take.

I feel the same way! Sometimes Yusuf is TOO soft haearted for his own good! It is about time he does something so those who enjoy shooting off their mouths will get their facts together, first, so they don't look like idiots!! I hope Yusuf takes Mr. Tapper and GQ MAGAZINE to the cleaners!!
