A few days ago my pet dog, which we adopted from the pound some 12 years ago, became very ill due to a disk slipping in her spine, in fact she became paralyised and couldn't walk. So we took her to the vet's and the Vet had a look over her and strongly recommended that she be put to sleep- Because she was my dog, the family left the decision with me.
Although very hard, I determined that it was in her best interests. As the vet prepared the needle I decided to sing her a song despite the tears which ran down my face- Her name was 'Lady' so I sang her the CS song of the same name.
She seemed to become relaxed as I pet her head slowly with the words 'Now I've never known a lady like yourself' emiting from my mouth in a whisper. It wasn't long before the vet returned and injected her with the needle and then it was a very short space of time before she was gone.
I was absolutely distraught by the experience- but we have decided to get her cremated and placed in an urn. I hope to have the words "I've never known a lady like yourself..." engraved on it. On the car ride home from the vet's I put my headphones in and played "I love my dog" about 8 times in a row.
Whilst sad, I was very thankful for Cat's music, as it helped me get through this very difficult time. I just wanted to share this moment with you all. Paul

Paul, I'm so sorry for your loss. I'm sure many, if not most of us here on Majicat have lost a beloved pet, so we know what you're going through.
Cat/Yusuf has been there for me often over the years, getting me through thick & thin. I'm always grateful for his comforting words & music, and I'm happy he was there for you too.

This is very sad, Paul. I'm so sorry to hear of your loss.
This means you had your dog since you were only 6 years old! She must have been a great part of your life - like family. Nevertheless, it's very clear that you made the right decision to end her suffering.
I'm so glad that Cat's songs are a comfort to you. I hope knowing that Majicatters share in your grief also offers some comfort - I still remember my childhood pets and the awful pain of losing them.
Thank you for sharing this.
Take care, ~Sun~

Joni, I didn't see your post before posting mine, and it's amazing how similar they are. I guess we mother-hen Majicatters really do all think alike.

Paulo, I know the feeling and I can understand your sadness. Some decisions in life are not always easy. In your heart you know you made the right one. You will remember and you will grieve, but as they say time is the best healer, even if that loved one was a pet. Over the past 25 years we have put to rest three German Shepards. Monica, Monty, and Lorenzo. When you have have them from very young pups you raise them like one of your children. They would wimp during the night and I would wake to feed or comfort them. Years of bringing happiness, joy and endless play for my two daughters. If I ever raised my voice to my daughters, Monica would come in between and nudge me and stare at me like saying that's enough. They grow up, and then they are there for you. To protect you, to comfort you, to be your best friend. I will never forget the look in their soft brown eyes when they were put to rest, it was warmth, love and them knowing you did your best, because there is no doubt they knew how much we loved them. Monica, Monty, and Lorenzo have been laid to rest in a nearby woods from were we live. No one will take the place of your first "Lady'', but in time you will find space for a new "Lady". It's nice to know someone was thinking ahead, and wrote those two beautiful songs to comfort you.

Sorry for the loss of your pet Paul. My dog is 13, she had a cancerous tumour removed 12 months ago and it is regrowing. I'm dreading the end. I regret to say I have never been brave enough to stay with any of my pets at the end (with the exception of one chicken)

What a beautiful and sad story, Paulo. Thank you for sharing this with us, although it brings back sad memories for me, it's good to know you are not alone with these feelings. I am sure that one day we will all meet up with our beloved ones again. Until then, we hold on to our wonderful memories.

I worked at Childrens Hospital in the Cancer Center for years. Dying children always would see their grandmas and people in their rooms, etc. I recall hearing that one said he saw a ladder going to heaven with people going up it and dogs, cats and birds flying up the ladder too! So you will see your beloved pet again on the other side!
