Slight resemblance, maybe, but I don't see too much! But, whether he is a copycat or not, he is also a crook! I just hope Yusuf gets what rightfully his!

Hmmm perhaps Wayne is a CAT wanabe. But we all know there will only be ONE Cat.
It also sounds like he just blew his own defense if the record company or Yusuf decides to take him to court.

Andrea, That's funny. It reminds me of the time I was working at Disney World (Orlando) and had a very scary, mean "guest" (customer) at our camera shop. He was MEAN! (Probably just had a hair up his ___). Anyway, he chewed me out because his video camera battery was dead and we were all out of his particular size battery (or something like that). I told him where to go (ha) to get the size battery he needed. It wasn't good enough. He wanted it NOW. What was I going to do for him .... One of these real "entitled" types. He went on and on. I took it to the supervisor, who then called one of the park managers in. I told the park manager in a real upset tone what had happened, and he smiled to me and said, "Come on, Lucy. How can you take someone so seriously who's wearing a Daisy Duck hat?" We ended up having some errand boy run to one of the other parks to get a battery for the enraged guest. Oh, and re Wayne Coyne (what a redundant name, anyway)... I think he looks more Cat-like than just about anyone else ever mentioned on these Cat sites (usually when people say that they think so-and-so is a dead ringer for Cat, I don't agree at all). But I see a lot of Cat in this Wayne guy. Especially in these pics. He has very similar eyes (which is usually what's amiss in these other supposed Cat look-alikes) and cheek-bones and smile. Anyone agree? He's actually pretty cute. I wonder if he's gay? Hmm.... LOOK: www.wbr.com/flaminglips/cmp/parking.htmI think Christine's right. He's probably a Cat wannabe.

Thanks, Turan

Okay, this Coyne dude knew that the song sounded a lot like "F & S" and further says that Cat inspired him. Doesn't that say that he had a inkling that there could be a problem. Why didn't the guy go ahead and contact Yusuf. Yusuf would have been happy knowing someone was inspired by his work. But, no, the guy just assumed and made an ass out of himself.
It is not about money at all, but principles. If Coyne and Flaming Lips had gotten away with using the song then it would have opened the door for every Tom, Dick, or Harry to snatch someone's work.
A similar case happened between Hootie and The Blowfish and Bob Dylan. Remember the song "I Only Want To Be With You"? Darius Rucker and the band were sued by Bob because of the line "I'm tangled up in blue, I only want to be with you." Actually the song is very complimentary to Bob Dylan with lines like "Ain't Bobby so cool" and "singing a little Dylan while sittin' on a fence" I disagreed with Bobby's lawsuit because it was obvious that the song was praising Bobby, not stealing from him. But this stuff with Yusuf is a different story. The Flaming Lips should have consulted Yusuf or his manager to get an opinion.... It is Coyne's mistake and Yusuf should not be ridiculed at all for standing up and saying, "Hey, you copied me a little too much."
Love, A'isha

Aisha and Lady, I agree if they had asked Yusuf in the first place, I don't think it would have come down to this. And then to brag about it in a few magazine articles on the web, about what they did and laugh it off as if it was nothing. Almost like a school boy prank seeing how far they could go, before the teacher caught them and send them to the principle office.
In my opinion, Yusuf had to let it be known that he could not let it go, especially after he and Sony became aware of the situation. Other wise other musicians would try the exact same thing. It is within his rights to protect his music.

That's what ticks me off most of all! The fact that they can get on the air and admit that they stole Cat's music! GRR!

Well uh .. I'm certainly not that knowledgeable about music, or that particular. A while back I bought a Flaming Lips CD taking a chance because I couldn't listen to it at the store. I 'll just say it's the first CD I ever actually threw in the trash right after listening to it. I'd rather listen to cats fight on the roof I'm no judge of what's good & what's not in the music world. I just know that I thought it stunk.
