I bought the coolest book today: Postcards from the Boys, by Ringo Starr (2004, Chronicle Books). It's a lovely yellow hardcover exhibition art type book with facsimile full-color copies of 50 or so postcards (front and back) Ringo received over the years from his bandmates (or ex-bandmates ). It's VERY cool. Ringo describes each postcard and also adds some anecdotal trivia about the time he received it. I was just now happily reading through the book when I came across this on page 80: "I'd just been in Denmark and I actually played on a Cat Stevens' record because he was there too. And he wiped me off! I mean, I can't blame him because around those years, I was losing control! It's funny because you cop such a resentment at the time: 'What! He wiped me off!' God knows what I played for him." LOL Musta been Sink in the Can stuff. The postcard is postmarked Sept. 15, 1978 in NIPPON (Japan). It's a postcard of the Wall of China and it's from John and Yoko to Ringo's address in Monaco. (the postcard message from John is pretty gibberishy, with a typically scribbly cartoon of John, Yoko and Sean at the bottom. )

Well, Folks, the 'plot' thickens! The following quote is taken from Sueinhollywood's post of 6-26-09 (appearing in the thread "Greg in L.A. to see Yusuf") in which Suzie is referring to the Hal Ashby tribute and to his movie "Harold & Maude": After the screening of the movie (which I had never seen due to the fact that I lived in Spain at the time during the Franco dictatorship) Bud Cort came out and said quite a few words about the film and the people involved, particularly Ruth Gordon. About Yusuf he said: "we became great friends and then you disappeared - Ringo Starr wants to know what happened to the drum solo he did in Denmark..." Combining this with what Lucy13 found (in this thread's leadoff) makes one wonder... does anyone know what our Yusuf did to poor Mr. Starkey? Btw: "Happy Birthday" to Ringo, as he turns 69 today!* -Bud *Ringo is 69?... boy, do _I_ feel old!

Ooops! My apologies to both you and to Sue (in Hollywood), SuzieQ... thanks for the correction! That would have been quite the trip across 'the pond' for you to make! A modification will be forthcoming. -Bud

I believe that Lucy13 might be correct about this 'Ringo wipe off' being a case of "... Sink in the Can stuff". The question I have is: considering that Cat and Ringo worked so thoroughly on the song "Blue Monday" during the studio recording session, wouldn't that be Ringo playing on the completed cut on Cat's box set? Maybe not, though, as you would think Ringo's participation would have been noted in the box set's booklet. I am so confused... which is not a terribly unusual state of mind for me... (see my preceding post). -Bud

*Ringo is 69?... boy, do _I_ feel old! Uh, yeah, feeling a bit old now. Yikes!!! No need for you to feel that way, Jane! However, when one gets to be _my_ age... (These days, being on the north side of 50, I consider myself to be a bit of an antiquity!)* -Bud *Please let me be clear that I only consider _myself_ to be an antique, not anyone else who may be older than 2 score and 10.
