"Where Are You" another one I like from "New Masters" is a beautiful melody by Cat Stevens sounds almost like "Lalaina" by Donovan. I do remember being a fan of him in the late 60s, before I switched to Cat Stevens, but when I first heard "Moonshadow" in 1971, and "Morning Has Broken" back in 1972, that Cat's voice was a voice that you'll never forget, and the legend will still go on

Blackness Of The Night is a particularly heartbreaking song, and it talks about a man, who seems to wander endlessly, with a hope burning out deep inside his heart, searching for the answers to his spiritual insight. It's on the B-side of his minor hit single "Kitty" from 1967-68. I remember playing this song to my niece Chloe, daughter of my brother John. We went to Tenby many years ago, and I played it on my zither. I'll have to play that for the members of Majicat. They'll like that song!!! Thank you for leading me to so many rare, beautiful songs. "In the blackness of the night I see a sparkle of a star from the sweet silver tear of a child" It seems to me so many of the answers were already deep within Cat's heart.

There are some real good ones out there that Yusuf's wrote, but my favourites are Blackness of the Night and Image of Hell and of course Father and son although you can argue if it is a heart-break song!

"Maybe You're Right" is a good heartbreaker. taken from Mona Bone Jakon in 1970. That was the year when the Cat climbed back, but to even greater heights of his life as a pop star. I think that after his illness in 1968-69, when he had to break away from all that trauma, and studied Eastern religions such as Zen Buddhism, Taolism, numerology etc. That was his explorations for changing the image, his name and his persona, which we all knew better until the moment he became a Muslim and found peace and left the world of pop music behind him.

I suppose that my three favourite heartbreaking tunes in the Cat Stevens catergory are the best ones of his time. Songs like "Father & Son" from the Tea for the Tillerman album, and "Moonshadow" from Teaser and the Firecat, and "How Can I Tell You" from that same album. That song is one of those tear-jerkers, which brings a tear to many fans' eyes, and really makes them cry.

The most personal heartbreak song of Cat's is "Novim's Nightmare". This song is about a person seeing his worst fear come true and theres nothing he can do to stop it. That's sorta the situation i'm in...more or less. The way he describes it is heartwrencing. "Once i had a dream that worried me like a drunken guillotine lingering just above my head" Like he knew of his fate and he felt so helpless like a doomed prisoner about to be decapitated. That is one the most darkest opening lines in a song i ever heard and sets the tone for the rest of the song. Profound!

I do think that when Steve became a pop star in 1966, starting his musical career with his first song "I Love My Dog, followed by "Matthew and Son in 1967, along with I'm Gonna Get Me A Gun, and A Bad Night must have led him to despair, which wrecked his health for a couple of years, and when he was coughing up blood, which developed into TB. Eventually, he was rushed into hospital to rest and think about his future, and to find peace within himself. Climbing back to greater heights, he grew his long hair and beard, and making every female go wild. I personally was beguiled by that image, which I've loved for 38 years, and still today, even for his new stuff. Maybe back then, the Cat Stevens era headed nowhere, until 1979, he announced "That's it, fans. I've had enough!" Leaving the stage abruptly was sudden, and I was sad to hear about his conversion to religion. In 31 years when this happened, I had to face the fact that he became religious, until 2006, he came back to the stage for the third time. I still love him, even his music today is better than it ever was. Looking forward to this Moonshadow musical and hope to see it when it comes to the West End.

"Back To Earth" in 1978 was his calling down album, and "I wanna get off, and KI wanna be free" was what he was saying to his fans. "Just Another Night" was a personal song, talking about the time when he was dying, during his bout of TB. The lines read this:"I remember standing here, right on this very same site, I was dying but for you, it was just another night." Such a beautiful song, the lyrics are meaningful and true.

And now, folks, here's the song in full.
JUST ANOTHER NIGHT
I remember standing here right on this very same site. I was dying but for you It was just another night. You once rocked me in your world, You bought me my first shoes, I was just another lonely child Oh, and you were much amused
So you took me and you dressed me well, all for your friends to see, drained my body calmly till, there was no more left in me. Then you walked out and you cut me cold, out on the road somewhere. Why it happened well, I don't know And I still have no idea.
But everybody needs a friend sometimes you need a little help, And who knows, maybe one day you'll seek mine, only time will tell. You once held me in your arms, You made me feel so right. I was flying, but for you It was just another night.
But everybody needs a little help, whether or not, you think you really do. Everybody needs a little help, now the time has come for you.
I ain't looking to fight no wars no more talking trash. I'm not seeking any more pain 'Cause I've had enough of that But don't you worry, it's alright, if you should come around any night or any day, I won't ever let you down.

Hope this song applies to everybody here at Majikat today, including those people who mean such a lot to me and my life. But, for those poor souls in Haiti, suffering, and their families grieving for their loved ones, who died in the terrible earthquake last month, we send our blessings and love. And may God's true love be with us all, in sweet peace and happines, through His beloved name's sake. Amen.
