Joanne, It's not a magazine I'd ever buy normally, but I'll see if I can get one for you.
Rather than scanning it, I could bring it to the Albert Hall and hand you the magazine personally if you like...

DJ- Thanks ever so much. I'm going to check a newsstand here that sells a good selection of overseas mags today on my way to work. I'll let you know whether I have any luck.

Joanne, once you get a copy, will you promise to tell the rest of us "what you've learned Yusuf's learned?"

checkout Yusuf's website. He has this as a newsbrief. The link provided doesn't go to October edition yet though. It shows Sept. What could I care about Nair for men?

Well, I struck out at 3 local newsstands that have what I would normally call a wide selection of international mags. Got one more I can check tomorrow. Wish me luck. (Viv, if they have it I'll pick one up for you, as well.)

I had a look in all the local shops, but we know live near a little rural town which doesn't stock a very good selection of mags. I'll try again today for you, as I'll be traveling to the next bigger town, where they have better stores. DJ

Hey Joanne, DJ, The Oct issue may still be on the newstands when we're in London. It would probably be much easier to pick up a copy then. I plan to keep my eyes open for it

Joanne,
I have a copy of the mag for you. Yusuf has one page at the back, it's only a very short article in his own words, but there is a nice profile photograph of him.
I'll bring the mag with me to the RAH for you.

"The best music is made by amateurs," says Yusuf Islam on p.272, "I think of myself as an amateur."
Now that's a healthy view of himself, don't you think? I love it!! Sounds like the old Steve.... Refreshing!!

Yeah he is a very humble and modest guy. He came to a mosque on the corner of my street (where I live) and read the islamic call for prayer, and he also sang some of his islamic songs (nasheeds). This mosque is like tiny, I mean really tiny, and it is in the middle of nowhere. There was no announcement that he was going to turn up and he just showed up out of the blue. He came in a silver Jaguar and no-one noticed it was him until the mosque leader announced his name. As you all know he never really wanted fame as a result of his songs, and he emphasised this by visiting probably one of the the smallest mosque in Britain without making any arrangements. He is one relaxed down to earth dude and we respect him for that.
Peace,
Gizmo

Peace, Gizmo Are you saying Yusuf came to the mosque in Birmingham and I could have been waiting there with my camera to photograph him getting out of his silver jag, oh if he'd only let us know he was coming. Hey do you think its worth loitering round the mosques just in case LOL, only joking.

Sure I know Yusuf's down to earth and pretty modest, but actually, Vivian, and Gizmo, I was following a different logic. Now unless my logic's flawed, it follows: 1) The best music is made by amateurs. 2) I think of myself as an amateur. 3) Therefore, I make the best music! He's too funny!!!....... ;D :-* (funny -- my last little raspberry-blower guy and the kissing guy are awfully close to each other. ha ha!!!)

I don't KNOW how I did that! I don't think I can reproduce it. Maybe it has to do with how far over in the margin I was getting...

That's an once in a life time achievement, cherish it like no other. Millions may try it, but none will suceed. In the future I will sit my children on my lap and I will tell them where I was when this rare event happened. I tried to copy and paste it but that didn't work (obviously). You must be special or weird (well everyone is openly weird here).

I know I am late to this thread but better late than never.
Gizmo, that is exciting that Yusuf showed up at your mosque unannounced, that really does show how down to earth he is.
Lucy, I got a little chuckle out of that little snippet from the magazine as well.
Another little chuckle I found in the article is:
"I still love movies. 'My Big Fat Greek Wedding' was great but I wouldn't watch, The Matrix Reloaded', because I think it would confuse me'
Hey the man is honest, all those action movies confuse me too! hahaha
