What is everyone doing? Hardly anybody is posting, there's no banter, no discussion, no fun chatting! Is the whole group just busy with fall activities, if so I understand, but I miss y'all! I know you're not packing for the U.K. quite yet! Oh well, just asking since there has been so little activity and everywhere I look I see my name as the last poster...thaat's boring. Looking forward to "bantering days" again!! Hi! I'm here! I wish I could come here more often but I've always got computer issues (I'm still on dial up!, and my computer itself is down to 2% free space!!) and I also deal with being pulled in a hundred different directions all at once, and I admit it, also depression. Some days I can't seem to do anything I enjoy (like coming here). But I'm moving soon, to a new house, and no matter how much scrimping and saving it's going to take, I'm getting a new computer and a REAL internet connection! No more dial up! Another reason I don't post often is I feel I don't have anything real to contribute, as I've never seen Cat/Yusuf in concert, and never met him or any of his band members, as I've noticed many of you have. I can't TELL you how much I envy you but also how nice it is to be able to read the first-hand accounts of these adventures! I always wonder what I was doing when concerts (back in the day) were held near my home. Was I looking left that day instead of right and I didn't see the poster? Or was I in the shower when the DJ on the radio announced it? I used to go to concerts a lot as a teenager, but I never even heard a whisper of Cat's. Oh I know where I was, I was in that movie theater in Georgetown watching Harold and Maude again and again with my friend Cindy! Doh! Hi SS, "... So nice to see a friendly face come peeping through..." Please do try to stop by more often. I've always read your posts with great interest because they are just that: interesting! They truly are. You have tons to contribute... you always have and always will. -Bud

I have to "ditto" what Incognita said!! Everything happens in it's own time, in its own way. You can only move forward from where you are! And like Bud said, you definitely have lots to contribute! So my most sage advice to you is.... you better get to steppin' if you're gonna catch up to us self proclaimed "Yusufologists"! ;D Yep, a bunch of us have not only studied, but done extensive research. Many have travelled the globe, lost fortunes, and ruined relationships in their quest for the right to call themselves scholars on the mighty man himself. I don't truly count myself among the elite, but consider myself merely an under-graduate. But believe me, I'm hittin' the books and burning the midnight oil to earn my degree. So if anybody wants to copy my notes....it'll cost ya!! PS I know what you are all thinking..."She needs a 'CAT' scan! Guess what??? BRING IT ON!!! I ain't skeered!

Hey SS, It's not about whether or not you've seen him in concert, or have all his records, or any one of a hundred other things. To me it's all about how his music has touched your life or inspired you to do (or not do) something. It's about feelings and sharing a common interest with people of a like mind. You can say things here, that if you said them to the average person, they would look at you like you were a "fan"atic!! But on this site...anything goes! Love his hair? say it! Love his song? say it! You said that perfectly Richina. Hey what don't you say perfectly? Your posts are awesome PS We need a thread about Cat-hair Amen, Incognita!* -Bud *Please note, Friends: that hearty "Amen" goes for both what Incognita said about Richina and her posts and for what she requested in her 'PS'.

...ahhh...i'm here, just not checking in as often as I used to. been dealing with a strange incident - snakes inside my car's dashboard (sounds like a horrible song title, huh?). yea and now they decided to die in there. So... it's been nerve-racking....
When I'm feeling this hopeless, I just play some beautiful Yusuf music and all becomes right with the world again!

So... it's been nerve-racking.... Hello! Nice to have everybody turn up in response to Richina's shoutout. We get to meet one another that way. On with the roll-call! I sympathize with you about the snakes. I have still not forgotten the terror of finding a large snake in my bedroom a couple of years ago and the horrific aftermath. The way you say "they" it sounds even more scary. Hope the nasty events are behind you and you'll have peaceful days ahead. You are so right there. Take care and stay around.

You're right Regine. So few of them are actually poisonous or dangerous. (But I wouldn't care to find them dead or alive in my car ) They are truly beautiful creatures. And maybe we can play Peace Train for them and they'll relax. ;D

Hey Mary...long time no see!! Great to have you back for a minute. Ooooh, sorry to hear about the snakes, guess they were looking for a warm place to sleep. (yuck ) Man, what a mess. I'll bet the people working on your car hate to see you coming. LOL They're probably thinking "Gosh, what now??" But hey, living in Louisiana, snakes are just part of the landscape. The other night I came home, and I was walking in the door I saw a Copperhead laying in the middle of my carport between the cars. I just walked in, looked at my husband, and said "snake in the garage." He went outside just in time to see it slithering away. The only thing I was worried about was my cat, Teaser, I didn't want him to try to play with the thing and get hurt. Understand, I don't dislike snakes, I respect them. I just don't want them to threaten mine or my pets safety. If they go away, that's fine...but don't bow up at me or you're toast!! Around here, our biggest threat is a Water Moccasin (Cotton mouth), they are extemely aggressive and will even chase you. We have 2 beautiful ponds on our property in which I've seen only a couple of these snakes, most are harmless water snakes. One of the moccasins was actually eating a huge bullfrog....gross!! I stupidly, and without thinking, hit the snake with my walking stick in an effort to save the frog. It was to no avail, as the frog had already been bitten...ugh. The snake swam out a little ways and just sat, floating, and staring at me. It kind of creeped me out. He later came back and finished off the frog...double ugh! Oh I forgot to tell you, I was walking with my 6 dogs at the time, the smallest being 4 1/2 lbs., a mere snack for a Cotton Mouth!! Anyway, I've been very lucky living here since in 6 years I can count the number of snakes I've seen on one hand! And when my 2 Dobermans were alive, we didn't see ANY. If they ran across a snake, they would grab it and shake it, which would pop its' head off...triple ugh! But then, of course, every other wild living thing steered clear of those two. (possums, raccoons, rabbits, squirrels, armadillos, deer, wild turkey, etc.) Great hunters, they were, but never looked twice at my cats or my parrots (they would actually run if one of my birds flew off their perch), it wasn't worth the butt whuppin'!! Really they were gentle giants. Bruno and Mercy sometimes seemed actually shocked that they killed something. But the best part was when Bruno wanted to bring his "prize" to his Mama! You don't know how many squealing armadillos he has tried to present to me as I ran away screaming "Drop it, drop it.." and in the next breath hollering at my husband "Get that dang dog and do something to save whatever he's trying to hurt!!" To my husband, it was aggravation...to Bruno, it was all a game. I miss him. So there's my snake story, with a little dog saga thrown in...see what y'all started?? ;D Good luck with your snake exorcism Mary! And Maya, we need more details about the snake in your room!!

The only thing I was worried about was my cat, Teaser, I didn't want him to try to play with the thing and get hurt. Ah I love that your cat is Teaser! You're like my mom. She was quite afraid of them though. I am a little fonder of snakes than that. I had the chance to touch them at an event in my school back in 1975. We had an expert on the premises who actually demonstrated the venome extraction process and gave us the snakes to handle as well. We learnt a lot at that session. Ever so often I think we try to get into this process to save a creature getting attacked on our own property. I've done that too in a smaller way. But I guess that is nature and that must be his normal prey. Oh no! More conflicts!! I so understand this and I love the way you've brought these episodes and the feelings around them to life. Love your gentle giants and their seeming shocked at killing something My snake story was quite scary really. He was around 4 ft long(don't worry he'll add a foot in length each time the story is retold ) and the horror was mainly because I heard a rustle in the bedroom just as I came out of my bath, still wet LOL, and actually thought it was just another mouse(we have these pesky cute mice all over). I even hollered at it to scoot but it answered my courtesy with a HISS! That's when I caught sight of the silvery line along the edge of the wall near the window and froze on the spot, still wet. The rest was a saga of hollering for the caretaker who brought a guy with sticks and staves. Oh yes I had to quickly dry myself and get some clothes on to receive them with one eye fixed on that silver streak(like it would stay still if I stared at it ) I badly wanted to trap the snake. There was a good chance it wasn't poisonous and even were it to be, it would have done well for itself in the snake sanctuary not far from town. There is a snake expert who comes and takes these creatures away. But my brain was dead in that panic. I live right in the heart of town and this was an unexpected episode but it's on the increase because unscupulous realtors(whom I would gladly thrash to hell with sticks and staves) are ravaging wetlands and other wildlife habitats to erect condos for the stupid insensitive rich. They somehow find their way around and end up in the urban jungle. But to come back to my guest, he had to be beaten up and that's a painful memory I'll always carry. My house was too chaotic and cluttered right then to risk his escaping into the recesses somewhere. So he had to be done to death. Not a nice story but one that actually motivated me to start probing the nature of fear and writing about it.

Wow. I would do four things if I ever discovered snakes living anywhere in my car:
1. Remove the license plates 2. Remove the VIN tag 3. Abandon the car somewhere near a chop-shop 4. Buy a new car
I'm joking about the first three (I think), but not #4. I don't think I could ever drive that car again, but kudos to you if you can.
Good thing you have great music to listen to while dealing with that!

You are toooo funny Jane! ;D I think I like the "new car" idea too. My Mom had rats living in the engine of her new Toyota. Guess where they came from...Japan!! Japanese rats??? Ain't that a hoot?? They had chewed up wires, and all kinds of stuff under the hood, not to mention...urinated all over (and you know what that had to smell like when the engine heated up)!! Then the "bright idea" mechanics told her to put poison in their to kill them (which it did), but then guess where they died? UNDER THE HOOD!! And guess what that smelled like when the engine heated up?? (rat fricassee with a little hint of piss on the side) Man, she couldn't sneak up on anybody at a stoplight!! And you dang sure couldn't ride with her. Boy she sure wanted to show off her new car, but everybody just admired it from afar! LOL ;D The dealership ended up giving her a new car after 6 months of trying to fix the problem, YAY! But, you know, there's someone out there riding around in a brand new Toyota, that they bought for a song, that stinks profusely when it heats up, and the customer can't explain why on either count! BUYER BEWARE! ;D

These stories are just so funny, especially Richina's rats under the hood one! I have a cute story about why "Cats are Man's and Woman's best friend": My daughter had a kitten named Patches when she was little (5 I think) and she was such a loving little thing, all purrs and cuddles with her little girl. One day though Patches was hissing, jumping around, acting like she would scratch, and wouldn't let my daughter near the TV to change the channel. My daughter in tears came running because Patches was "being a meany!" Turns out that right in front of the TV, stretched out along the front-side and in all its naked pink glory was a newly hatched baby rattlesnake! Patches had done her job at protecting "her baby." No more of the little pinkies where ever found indoors and I've always wondered how that one managed to make its way in.

What a crazy story!! We all knew that "cat"s were smart, we just didn't know how smart!! And the fact that you were able to combine a snake story with a cat reference....makes you the smartest one of all!!! Love it and glad your little girl is here to tell about it!! ;D Richina PS and I learned something new...I didn't know rattlesnakes were pink when they were born...ugh!

Loving all these stories. Rats, cats, rattlesnakes And new cars ;D ;D ;D Jane I had many sleepless nights after that episode so I don't blame you. Rats in cars are quite common in India. As also squirrels. But the warehouse-fresh Japanese rats in Richina's mom's car are quite something! Maybe they were abandoning a sinking ship and climbed in? ;D Patches is a hero!!! But what happened to the trespasser?

So, thought I'd check in about the never ending dead snakes in the dashboard story. I was so grossed out by the stench last week that I sprang into action, stayed home from work and called every shop in the phonebook, looking for someone to take care of this! One Honda dealership wanted $1700 to take apart my dash!! Can you believe it? I did find a Auto Detailer who had some outrageous stories of things he's dealt with over the years. He has a camera with a flexible lens that he could "snake" up into the dash and located the "mass", then they'd know what to take apart and be able to give a solid estimate. But I decided to wait and see what happens.... bought some odor eliminator stuff and wear a mask while I drive. The smell's eased up a bit but it still disgusting. And now it's raining out like crazy, so can't open the windows. YUCK!

Sorry to reply so late Mary, but I have only one word for you... GEEEEEEEROSSSSSSS!! Gross, Gross, Gross....did I mention that the whole thing is just gross?? How do you stand it? I mean, nasty, stinky, rottin' in your A/C, funkin' up your air ducts, creepy, slimy, flesh crawlin', dead snakes! Oh the inhumanity of it all! And what of you riding around wearing a mask? Do you just tell people you're afraid of swine flu, or do you tell them the truth, and wait for their expression to change? This is just tooo crazy! What kind of air freshener do you buy for this? Do they like make a brand for such a problem? Maybe "Snaky Stink Be-Gone" or " Rattle Your Funk Away" or "Slither the Scent Out" or my personal favorite, "Repti-Breeze"!! ;D Well, whatever the outcome, please guard your olfactory to the Nth degree and carry plenty of perfume, 'cause you know when you get out of that car, there's bound to be a "whiff of Jiff" all about you! LOL Just funnin'! I truly wish you the best of luck in your dilemma! Carry on with the snake hunting expedition and remember to carry a big stick! Richina

Thanks Mary, but you've got something more than humor to brag about....you've got FORTITUDE!!! What else could explain your ability to deal with the "snake snag", "serpentine situation", or, dare I say it, "reptile riddle", without totally losing your mind? Yep, as far as I'm concerned, you've got my vote for "Automotive Mishap Woman of the Year"!! ;D Can't you just hear the applause? All I can say is if someone can beat you, let them speak now or forever hold their peace!! Bravo and continued good hunting, Richina

Hi Folks, I have been experiencing internet connection problems from "h-e-double-hockey-sticks" for the past few weeks. I am writing/typing this to you from my local library (the only way I am able to access the 'net at the present time). Just wanted you all to know that I am in the process of lining up a new WiFi provider at home, and it will be with a most happy heart that I shall re-connect with all of my friends at Majicat in the near future. I miss you guys more than I can say, and I look so forward to rejoining my fellow Majicatters soon. In the meantime (and these really _have_ been 'mean times'!), take good care! -Bud

Hi Regii, Chris, Richina, Incognita, and Jane! Wow! You folks are all so very kind, thank you for the warm "welcome back". It is absolutely no exaggeration for me to state that my life has been diminished by my inability to have the opportunity to come and check-in with you, and with all of my great friends, and your always interesting doings, here at the "House of Cat". See you all soon on a more regular basis. Boy! Have I missed you guys! Thanks again, and take good care, all. -Bud
