Elvis Costello Covers Cat Stevens by Paul Cashmere - October 7 2009
The new Ricky Gervais film `The Invention of Lying` will feature Elvis Costello covering Cat Stevens` `Sitting`.
Cat Stevens recorded the song for his 1972 album ‘Catch Bull At Four’. Right now there is no word of a soundtrack album to officially release the Costello version of the song.
The film also stars Jennifer Garner and Jeffrey Tambor.
The plot is about a world where no-one has ever lied until someone invents the lie.
Ricky Gervais stars as liar Marl Bellison and also wrote and directed the movie. It will be released on November 29.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Hmmm this will be interesting to hear. I love some of Elvis C's earlier cover songs. I have heard quite a few.
Elvis Costello has the rather unenviable distinction of sharing my exact, same birthday (August 25, 1954). Up until now, that is the first thing I thought of whenever I heard or saw his name... but now I have something of more importance to remember him by. Here's hoping his version of "Sitting" does end up being released on the soundtrack recording, afterall. -Bud (Elvis C.'s fellow-Virgo)
Thanks Christine, I too like Elvis Costello. It will be interesting to hear how he handles the song. Should be nice. On another note...Bud, Virgo? At your age, you know you ain't no virgo! (and if you are, we need to have a serious talk!) Also, according to your birthday(Aug 25), and mine (July 24) your Dad sure was making the rounds in his day! Oh wait, I was born in 1958, so he was not as prolific as I thought. But you know, that would make me....just a sec ,......hmmm ......hold on, .......oh, yeah ....4 years younger than you!! hahaha I'm nothing but a young whipper snapper compared to you! Does that mean I have to call you "sir"?? Oh, I forgot....we already do!! ;D Your nickname could be "Sir Bud Load"! LOL Just funnin' Buuuuud! ;D PS Anyone reading this and thinking the worst should refer to previous posts. (or get a life, whichever comes first! )
(or get a life, whichever comes first! ) ;D Richina! ;D Actually, your Mom was 'cleared' of any possible parental impropriety in a prior post. As for my Dad, well... in his defense, I can testify to the fact that the man had brown eyes. Hmmm... but then, again, his father's peepers were blue... Anyway, that being what it may, I came up with the acronym "SFAO" for you ("sister from another other") as opposed to "SFAM" ("sister from another mother"). See? Your Mom's reputation is returned to its proper (and accurate) plateau. (By the way, as you might have guessed, the "another other" part of this title was fashioned and worded in the style of Yusuf's "An Other Cup") I guess the "other" in question is of the spiritual realm... in a spiritual way we are a brother and sister 'under the skin'. Hey, I'm very glad to add a sister (yes, I know: as you stated so clearly in your post, in this case, a YOUNGER sister to an OLDER bro!). Thank you, as always, for the lift, Richina. The good and great humor that you provide is so very much welcomed! -Bud, (Brother) Bud, (Sir) Bud (Load), -- whichever you prefer!
Hey Brother Load, I sure am glad your first name isn't "Wide"! And as far as my Mom's plataeu goes, you have no idea how "far above" she truly is. She's a fine lady, a true friend, and a mean band majorette! (well, was a mean majorette) And you know, adding a sibling, via the worldwide web, could be a pretty cool thing. I don't have to feed you at Thanksgiving, I get to pick on you and you can't hit me, and you can't start fights with my other 2 brothers (which my sister and I always have to referee)! This is sounding better and better, matter of fact, my brothers are younger than me, so this could really be a good thing! I don't have to be the OLDEST anymore!!! ;D Works for me! Welcome to the family Bud, you don't know what you're asking!! ;D ;D ;D PS Who's side you gonna be on? The girls or the boys?? (think loooooong and hard before you answer that, Bud! )
hmmm, hmmm Its good to see you two are having a good time conversing, but it's getting off topic. Perhaps we can get back to the subject, or you can start a new thread.
(think loooooong and hard before you answer that, Bud! ) Well, let's see how effectively I can type while peering through the tears of laughter in my eyes (I have more than enough trouble when my eyes are free and clear) that often result from reading one of your hilarious posts. Thank you for welcoming your 'older brother' into the family. You are correct in saying that serving me a portion of Thanksgiving dinner will not prove necessary, and, also, that you can pick on me at will... that's a mighty small price to pay in return for the designation I have received. As for choosing sides in the coming boys vs. girls/brothers vs. sisters battles... ... I'll have to get back to you on that one. Thanks, Sis! -Bud P.S. -- "Brother Load"? Why does that make me think of something such as "Brother Load's Traveling Medicine Show", or some such. If you would kindly agree, "Brother Bud" would fit just fine!
When you're right, you're right, and that you are, Christine. From this day forward, I will be sure to keep my family matters private. Sorry about that! -Bud
I look forward to hearing Elvis Costello's cover. I have a few of his albums and saw him perform live back in the 70's
