If the site is now called "Dashing" then yes. I did reconnect with someone from that site on Facebook. She's on Dashing. And the name John Gibbons sounds familier. I tried to reregister for that site, but never got a conformation email from them, oh well. I wonder what happened to that site anyways. Does anyone know the story behind that?

I belonged to that site. I enjoyed it, but there was alot of dissension that became very annoying. John eventually sold the site to Yusuf. John's new site is called Dashing

Hmmm... catstevens.com... In some ways, it was like... well, it was kind of like bein' back in High School. And with all that such an impression encompasses and implies. -Bud

I believe that the U.K. site afforded us the opportunity to post on a message board even prior to being able to do so on catstevens.com... am I remembering that correctly? I do recall, however, that John Gibbons offered an email 'news group/mailing list' capability on the 'old' cs.com. -Bud

It's funny to see how everyone commenting here seem to be... well.... holding back?!! ;D ;D ;D
Actually, you have to go back to late 1996 for the first manifestation of anything Cat Stevens on the web. There were two sites: Gibbon's "Tea for The Tillerman web site" and another one, maintained by a student of some US university... can't recall what it was called. Wow, that's almost 15 years ago.
But, nothing beats Majicat. This is one of the friendliest place on the web I've taken part of over the years. As opposed to the "High School" (love the reference Bud), there are no bullies here.

Thanks, glaucus. Well, to put some additional "meat on the bones" of my impressions and memories of cs.com (and I preface this by stating that there were many good and positive things about the site), my personal point of no return was reached with the posting of a thread that asked for members' 'votes' for a 'poll' on fellow members. It was a sort of "class superlatives" vote (which goes a long way, along with the distasteful "bullying" aspect that glaucus mentions, toward explaining my "high school" reference). It was all about opinions as to "who is the best this" and "who is the best that", etc. As I say, that was the straw that broke this particular camel's back. Oh, and a lighter note: contrary to a rather scurriless rumor that made the rounds at the time, my being voted "worst dressed" in that poll had not a wit to do with my taking leave of the site... nope, I strongly deny that that was a factor. (I'm just kidding: I had long since surrendered active cs.com membership by the time of that particular thread's advent, and I doubt that many cs.com members even remembered me by then, let alone knowing what kind of 'threads' -- in this case, those other kind of 'threads' -- I wore) -Bud

Was the site that you are referring to called "Whistlestar", by any chance, glaucus? I seem to recall that the U.S. college student behind that site was named Rachel Gold, and that she was also an early member of John Gibbons' site (all the way back to the cs.com pre-message board days of the late nineties). Don't know if "Whistlestar" still exists, though. -Bud

I've been trying for a couple of days to remember the name but it's been deleted from my brain! Someone should invent some sort of personal data recovery system for middle aged men with corrupted memory! Keep in mind, this was the glory days of 14.4 kpbs modems.. so.. what.. a couple of centuries ago?!! ;D I did remember a third site from that era, it was a Cat Stevens Japenese site. I remember seeing tour dates from the Bamboozle tour there. Don't know either if that one still exists in the cyber-cat-world.

I remember that CS.COM website as well, and the feature on there that interested me most was the Fan Cover Songs page, and on it were the acts, who made their own renditions of Cat Stevens songs. Acts like Sonia Milan, Greg Patton, Ged Roman, George A. Gelish, and last but not least, Rick Crane, who also made covers of those wonderful songs. It was such a shame when that site finished so abruptly.

Glaucus, I remember the website you are referring to. Wasn't the site designed after the Buddah and the Chocolate Box album cover?
There was also a little C.S. website from Norway or Sweden ran by a guy named Peter something or other. He had a lot of scandinavian articles up on his website.

Now, if only I could remember the guy's name..... The name "Marcus" keeps popping in but maybe I'm confusing my fan sites.

A poor substitute, I know, but I hope it brings a smile to your face. What is interesting (not to mention, more than a bit eerie) is that when you click on the link "Why That Nick Name?" under 'Message Board Topics' , the thread actually comes up! Wow, Lucy, I felt as if I had traveled back a decade in some sort of a time-travel capsule... thanks for finding and posting this. There were, indeed, many very fine things about cs.com, and the vast majority of its members were really terrific people. It just took a few 'bad apples' to... well, you know the way that saying goes. -Bud

Does anyone remember the fantasy ring? I was a member of this Cat Stevens fan club in 1973-74. (I was 15!) I just found all the letters sent to me by Val Davies during those years. I thought they were long gone! She was the head of the fan club at that time. The incredible thing is she typed the letters just in answer to my questions-explaining who she was, vacationing with Steve, when he was going to tour in the states, and later that she and Alun were separating. Just curious if anyone else was a part of that fan club?

When I entered CS.COM, it opened a new window of music, and I was intrigued with all the features on it. On the musical side of this was the Fan Covers page. We had an iMac computer at that time, and I used to play these covers on RealPlayer, and each version by those artists, lifted my heart. My parents also love the music of Cat/Yusuf, and have listened to all his songs. I had a repaw with many of those fans, including Ged Roman and Bill Mills.

Peace,Vivian I remember the pride I felt when I was no longer considered a "Jr. " member of that site. Hey, Kat, great to see you posting! I wonder if you recall the following, I know that it tickled my funny bone. As you say, upon reaching a certain plateau (was it authoring one's 100th post, perhaps?) on the catstevens.uk site, one would be upgraded from the "Jr." to, I guess, "Sr." membership status. Anyway, I'll never forget the comment you posted once you were so-designated: "Wow, does this mean that I now receive the keys to the executive wash room?" Such a great line, and one that I've always remembered! ;D Great to see you posting again, my friend! -Bud
