Thank you Catty, Glaucus, Vivian. I've never seen this intrerview before either. It's fantastic - just lovely. What a "spirit" indeed! Oh, and the newspaper article is amazing, Glaucus. I never heard of the strip search before. Good God! - I hope they don't try that again! I don't think "Yusuf" would be so "cool"...

I'd bet that Yusuf is somewhat embarresed at what Cat used to like. But it's funny to picture Cat standing in front of a bunch of customs officers, naked as a jaybird. I'm sure glad Cat's guard was cleared of his own drug charges.! Peace,Vivian

Afterall, "Heaven has no rage like love to hatred turned, Nor hell a fury like a woman scorned" (William Congreve, The Mourning Bride, 1697). BTW, this is by the same guy who wrote, "Music has charms to soothe the savage breast To soften rocks, or bend a knotted oak"

The thing that really struck me as I watched this video is how much Cat sounds like Yusuf. I don't mean the sound of the voice, but rather the things he was saying and the spirit behind the words. He may have been the handsome young man who lived the life of a rock star, but inside, he was the Yusuf we know today. I guess that is why we feel the way we do about him.

I agree Jane. Well put! Like Yusuf said about himself, "It's the same heart."

It's fascinating. I'd seen this before, but it's nice to watch.
Think about this -- if someone had interviewed you 20 years ago (and this is longer . . .), assuming you are old enough to have been an adult then . . . do you think you'd have said things that didn't make you ashamed now? What wisdom we do expect from our idols.
As for me, 20 years ago (at the age of 22) I'm not sure I could have handled a filmed interview without breaking down into nonsense. Then again, I'm not so sure I could do it better now . . . I guess it would depend on what we were talking about!

Yes, I think we sometimes we forget, Yusuf was very young, shy, a deep thinker than a speaker, and a genius when it came to lyrics, and music. I think he had, and has many great qualities that he has nothing to be ashamed for. Not being able to express your thoughts and ideas verbally is nothing to be ashamed of. It was all part of his growing experience. I think over the years, knowledge, confidence, knowing were he was going, and maturity,(although his early lyrics, and thinking seemed very mature for his age) he evolved into a very good speaker.
