I picked up my first Cat Stevens album 30 years ago. There was a record library in the city; I would borrow LP's, tape them and return the next week. Be it my youth or his songwriting talent, it’s funny how even after not listening to some tunes for say 15 years, I can still remember the lyrics. These days I can listen to a CD daily for a month and I would struggle to remember anything Never thought I would see him live. After all those years, sitting there directly in front of him was quite surreal. I am an avid concert goer and have been for years but last night, sitting there I realised I was privileged to witness one of those special once-in-a-lifetime musical moments that only the 10,500 people attending would understand. For someone who takes to the stage so naturally, Yusuf bears no pretence. His comments are delivered in a manner more akin to sitting with a friend in a cafe. That simple delivery turned an arena into a 100 seat jazz club, it was quite amazing when I think of it. My wife and I just sat there and lapped it all up. Getting the invite to send in a photo, I asked my wife to take one of our son and I without mentioning why. When he started playing ‘Father and Son’ there was ‘just another background image’ and I thought to myself that for some reason they were not going to be shown. Halfway through the song, this ribbon of 35mm film started moving across the screen. I nudged my wife and said have a look at that. She thought I just being my usual self and getting excited over absolutely nothing. I had my camera up with a wide frame just waiting for it to (hopefully) come up. When it did I got an “Oh my God” from her, she was shell shocked. I was rapt, it went totally to plan. As for the tunes, they were all there and the new ones fitted in ever so nicely. The ‘Moonshadow’ Act was a highlight. The Wall-equese story of Storm flowed through Yusuf's perfectly delivered vocal commentary and extracts of new and old tunes. In a way I was gobsmacked, for years I had been listening to 10 odd albums of tunes not knowing that a number of them were secretly cohorting as pieces of an expansive jigsaw puzzle. A great night, no, make that a great experience that words cannot do justice. I am the ugly mug in the green t-shirt, thankfully in the shadows, no pun intended. The spotlight is where it should rightfully be, on my son.

What a fantastically moving review Marshall- thank you so much for posting this. I am so happy that you were able to see a picture of you and your son on the big screen, I imagine it would have been quite a shock to your wife! I hope that the picture I submitted of my Dad and I will roll past when I attend the first Sydney concert next Monday night.
Did you take these photo's yourself? because wow- they're good!
You must have been in a really good spot as well, if you don't mind my asking, which row were you in?

I have a small hallway of a few dozen 12x8 photos of musos, our 'Hall of Heroes'. We were sitting in the front row, directly in front of Yusuf with the microphone in the way. Luckily he moved to the side of the stage for Moonshadow and I was able get some shots from a different angle. Fingers crossed for you at the Sydney concert !

Marshall, thank you so much for this! Your review and the photos are amazing, and so nice to "meet" you via the photo of you and your son. If you haven't already, go to the threads of the Shepherd's Bush concert last May and the "Guess I'll Take My Time" tour last November/December to "meet" some of us as well.
I love how you spoke of listening to songs for years and not knowing that they were part of a jigsaw puzzle. For some the "Moonshadow" preview was not well-received, but I really enjoyed hearing them within the context of a story.
Your pictures are amazing - thanks for sharing them with us.

Thank you Marshall and Lister... It's so nice to see bits and pieces of this once in a life time concert tour. I am so happy that both of you were able to attend. Keep these coming as I really love reading all about the concerts.
Marshall, your photos are amazing. Never seen fan photos come out quite so clear as this. There is usually a head or something to obstruct the view. Thanks again!
Lister, thanks for the opportunity to witness the event through your wonderful videos of the concert!

Marshallg, so happy for you that all went as planned. Loved reading your post. Fabulous photos, right under the nose seat. How lucky can you get.!!! It's always so nice to read how YUSUF in a similar way has touched our lives. You review of the concert put a big smile on my face. Was your son there with you? He is a gorgeous little fella. Well Marshall, I would say this week you will be top of the list as her favourite man in your household. Enjoy your position while it lasts. ;D

AUGH! I can't play videos here at work - the video just keeps buffering and loading. I'll have to wait until I get home, which is not early because I spend too much time on Majicat during the work day! Oh well, anything for our Yusuf! Jane Oh, Richina - I'm fine with your dancing - unless you dance yourself in front of my camera. You can shake your booty all you want if that's what makes you happy! That's the least I can do for the girl who's bringing the jambalaya!

Thanks for those nice comments ,pics and video's hope you can get your chance to Paulo . Marchall and Lister did he say something about singing Ruby love ? All I can remember from before he sang Rubylove was that he talked about having to relearn things. Things like 7/8 time, the time signature of rubylove, and then he went into the song. I'll make a mental note of what he says tonight
