For those of you with access to Dimeadozen, someone just uploaded a Cat Stevens concert from Seattle 1976. It looks fantastic and the sound quality is pretty good. It has the date of 1976-03-06 but I couldn't find a show with that date in the Cat calendar. There is a listing for a Seattle show for February 7, 1976, so I wonder if the uploader's date might be off. Is anyone familiar with this show or recording? Here are the details from Dime: www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=314739Artist: Cat Stevens Date: 1976-03-06 Location: Seattle, WA Venue: Seattle Center Coliseum Source: Audience Lineage: Master Reels @ full track mono>Tandberg Model 11>Wavelab 96/24 1ch mono>wav 44.1/16 2ch mono>flac Taping Gear: Tandberg Model 11 R2R deck, Sony ECM-22P mic Taped and Transferred By: JEMS Band Members: Cat Stevens - guitars, piano, lead vocals Alun Davies - guitars, vocals Mark Warner - guitars, bazouki Bruce Lynch - bass Jean Roussel - hammond organ, clavinet, electric piano, synthesizer, piano Gerry Conway - drums percussion Chico Batera - percussion Larry Steele - percussion, flute, acoustic guitar, bass Kimberley Carlson - backing vocals Angela Howell - backing vocals Sue Lynch - backing vocals Setlist: 01. Many thanks librariancat68, great live recording indeed! Like someone said on Dime, it never ceases to amaze me that more of those old recordings still surface after 35 years! Great to hear "I Love My Dog" and "Blue Monday". They are also on the Boston Music Hall 76 recording. "How Can I Tell You" is really beautiful. And probably my favourite part of this concert, "JZero". I was hoping that this song would appear on the official Williamsburgh release (as he also sang it there) but they left it out. Great stuff, thanks again!

I am downloading it now. I'll convert it to mp3 and put it on box.net for anyone who wants it. I know many of you don't want to deal with torrents.

Glaucus, I have Jzero from Williamsburgh's boot, lemme know if you don't have it. Pathetic sound, tho. Jane, thanks in advance - I used to have a Dimeadozen account ages ago, no idea what happened to it, and anyway I'm too lazy to wait for FLAC files to download, so 320 kbps mp3 will do just fine! ;D Oh, and thanks to librariancat68 for the spectacular first post...

librariancat68 - thank you for letting us know about this! I can't wait to listen to it! Milan - I have no idea how many kbps it is. If you let me know how to determine that, I wll check and re-do it if necessary. I'm always happy to learn something new. Here is the link to the folder with all 27 files. You should see a button toward the upper right to download the entire folder. Enjoy! www.box.net/shared/i0zip3pi6u***If the first file in the list is 27, just click on "Sort by" and select "name" to re-sort it from 1 to 27.

I just listened to "The Wind" and the sound quality is really great considering it is a concert bootleg from the 70s! If I didn't have to get up for work in fewer hours than I care to think about, I would listen to it all right now.
Thank you again, librariancat68!

Glaucus, I have Jzero from Williamsburgh's boot, lemme know if you don't have it. Pathetic sound, tho. Yes Milan, I do have the infamous Niforos' tapes. Pathetic is the word. I've always referred to it as "The Bathroom Tapes" (cause it sounds like they were recorded through a toilet bowl). ;D So it's very nice to have this "new and improved" version of it. For those of you who don't know, way before the Majicat DVD came out, The Williamsburgh concert was made available to Cat collectors through an audience recording made by Alex Niforos. It's actually the very first audience recording of Cat I ever heard. I got it back in 1997 (I think) from Alex himself which was very nice of him. And the song JZero was the last encore of that night. Also, the pictures Alex Niforos' took that night are featured on the DVD.

Thank you both, librariancat68 and Jane! That's a real treasure!! Many of my Cat favorites, never heard "Blue Monday" before!! March 1976 - just a few weeks before my very first concert Cats Majikat-Gig in Cologne in April. The setlist wasn't as long as this, as far as I remember. Didn't go to any other bigger one 'til May and December 2009 - had a break of 33 years too :-)
You know what I'll be doing this evening ?!!

Many thanks to you, librariancat68 (and, btw, it's terrific to see you posting: "welcome"!) for this gem of a find, and to you as well, Jane: you're a true "Majicat Angel" who unfailingly facilitates many a great addition to our Cat Stevens and Yusuf Islam collections through your great generosity of spirit and friendship. Also, thank you to Glaucus: I thoroughly enjoyed reading your fascinating bits of information about the Williamsburgh concert and DVD... Oh, and your naming of the boot as "The Bathroom Tapes": priceless, G! ;D Finally, in reference to Cat's live performance (as well as studio recording) of "Blue Monday": it occurs to me once again that, although he didn't perform a great many, he always did a bang-up job with 'covers'... here's hoping that more are forthcoming! -Bud

Hi Folks, In continuing, last evening, to think about the 'cover' songs that Yusuf has performed over the years, I was somewhat struck by the realization of how few he has recorded, although in each and every instance I believe that he did a superb job. Off the top of my head, I came up with (besides a few strands of hair): "Morning Has Broken", "Blue Monday", "Another Saturday Night", "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood", and "The Long and Winding Road". Have I missed any, fellow-Majicatters? Do such tunes as "I Think I See The Light" qualify?... In other words, do cases of 'Yusuf covering Cat' count? Anyway, it seems that Yusuf has had many, many more 'covers' of his songs by others (which is quite a compliment!), rather than vice-versa. -Bud

"Morning Has Broken" is not exactly a cover, is it?

"Morning Has Broken" is not exactly a cover, is it? That's a very good point, Milan! I guess "MHB" falls into a kind of 'gray area'... a sort of 'semi-cover' cover. ;D -Bud

First, a very big thankyou to librariancat68 for discovering this CAT concert that was forgotten in someones draw. I think with Yusuf touring again, we will see more bootlegs popping up. His comeback has stirred old emotions from those CAT years, and many will remember they have a tape of some concert waiting to be heard again. Second, Jane, I hope you have not got tired of me thanking you for all the wonderful things you do for us. WELL TUFF, THANKYOU JANE!!!!!! ;D Thankyou for taking the time and effort to share. It is not an easy task, and I greatly appreciate your kindness. Thankyou Third, Bud, I remembered, "the day the world gets round", "all things must pass", and "man without country". Are these covers?

Bud, I remembered, "the day the world gets round", "all things must pass", and "man without country". Are these covers? Spot on, Vicki! I feel shamed that I failed to recall "The Day The World Gets Round" (how could I have possibly forgotten this one, I have it on my iPod -- maybe it's old age!) and "All Things Must Pass". As for "Man Without A Country", that is a new one to me, and, now, I must happily search for it! ;D -Bud

Wow! I listened to this twice today while doing some not-very-fun but necessary house-cleaning. Fantastic! Other than one spot where two girls seem to be having a "woot" competition, audience noises weren't too bad. This is a great find! Thanks again for letting us know about this one, librariancat68!

I think I realize now why this audience recording sounds so good. This is what the concert goer used as a recording device. I know gals and even guys carried large purses and bags in those crazy 70s but how in the world could you smuggle in something like that and use it during an entire concert without being bothered by security: Tandberg Model 11 Reel to Reel: And its carrying bag: And now, 35 years later, people record concert in High Definition holding a HD camera in the palm of their hand!!

This is the great thing about Christine's site and the fabbo Dime-A-Dozen. What an awesome find in such great sound. I've only just got around to listening to it... better sound than any of the cassette recorded stuff... but all such a great part of the rich jigsaw tapestry!
Re. the Tandberg reel-to-reel. Brave guy for sneaking that beast in, he must've been wearing one hell of a great coat! I recall some of the gigs I attended as a youth and promoters were openly encouraging the security to break the legs of ticket touts and those guys selling bootleg programmes and sub-standard souvenirs! Perhaps it was more laid back in Seattle!?
Keep rocking
George

Back in my retail days, I recall many stories of shoplifting rings in which women wearing very full skirts and dresses would steal small TVs (like 13 inch) by walking out of the store with them between their legs. Maybe that same technique was used with the recording equipment?
I just appreciate the effort and the results!

Great concert! The screaming girls don't bother me - I barely noticed them. I must have been screaming in stereo with them inside my brain - ha ha.
I love when he says he is going to get big-headed when someone yells that they love him. Awwww - what a cutie.
Jzero - brand new and awesome! It would be lovely to go back in time for one of these shows - but this is the next best thing (after seeing Yusuf of course).
A great big thank you to all that made it possible to listen to the show (I get the feeling the screaming girls may have been the ones who smuggled this because you can kind of hear them whispering in the beginning of the show and a little bit through out it - and I think they did an admirable job containing themselves actually - if they are in fact the responsible ones. I can't imagine being that controlled at twenty-something and seeing Cat live)

- seems to me you went to a Led Zepp concert and Peter Grant was in charge!

Spot on Milan ! I was sweating a bit as I went in drag with a maxi skirt and bustle with my trusty Philips cassette recorder between my trembling knees! Got away with it and I do think Peter Grant took a bit of a shine to me. The things you have to do to get a bootleg!!
