Please forgive me if I've put this in the wrong place - I've never started a thread before!
I just had to share something really amusing which happened yesterday. My younger daughter, aged 10, is just learning about algebra, and her teacher was trying to illustrate the impossibility of adding x plus y, by suggesting that x was a banana and y an apple.
What do you get if you add them, asked the teacher?
"Banapple", replied Meg, with great glee!
It completely passed over her teacher's head, but she was still laughing about it when she came home!
I always knew a bit of Cat indoctrination would stand her in good stead!
Have a great Saturday everyone.
Jo x

Thankyou Jo for sharing this, it made me laugh too. Your little Meg must have made your day. I think little Meg is a very clever little girl, plus with a great sense of humour.

Cat Stevens' music is uplifting, timeless and meaningful, he has written some very interesting songs, melodies and lyrics. Every song has the message of sweet love, peace and spirituality, and I think that in all honesty, his voice is so pure and sounds distinctive. The ones he did as the dear Cat had opened up every window of our lives. We all wanted to get close to him in the 1970s, and touch him, but that didn't happen, we were so beguiled by his charm and his looks. Sometimes at night I dream about him

That was cute - your job is done. My kids are still in training. My seven year old son is such a huge Beatles fan, I can't get him to understand that liking the Beatles and liking Cat Stevens/Yusuf are not mutually exclusive (though he does make me play Here Comes my Baby almost daily in the car)

That is SO cute.
My children are very much not interested in Cat/Yusuf. I've tried, and they're like . . . geez, mom, that was what, 1970-whuh-huh?? Or OMG, he's how old now? Nope, nope, they're into Lady Gaga, Katy Perry and Eminem. Blech. I used to like some of the stuff they liked too, but I'm afraid we now have a serious generational gap going on and I absolutely cannot STAND their music. I tried hard for a long time, but I suppose I'm finally too old.
And I don't CARE about being too old to like new music. Because the old music is just too good. Yusuf? Please, come along and crush them. CRUSH. I know you don't need the money, but WE NEED YOU.

I read in Rolling Stone Mag today that Oct. 9th would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday.
Oh MY GOD.
Is this possibly true? 70? Seriously?

Peacock, you mustn't worry about your children's musical tastes!
My older daughter, aged 21, loves so much modern stuff that I never seem to recognise anything she plays! I think it's some sort of ploy to make us feel our age!
Meg, the younger one, loves Yusuf and Cat (and rather surprisingly Carole King!), but I REALLY regret to say that her current fave is... The Jonas Brothers!!!!!
Honestly, I think Eminem and Katy Perry look pretty good compared to that!
Jo x
PS: Horrible to think of John Lennon having left us almost thirty years ago...

A tragic loss of a great artist (I cried when I heard George Harrison died too ) , but how wonderful that the Beatles are still a force in the music world. I love that teenagers know who they are, and like them! Gives me hope for the younger generation!

I read in Rolling Stone Mag today that Oct. 9th would have been John Lennon's 70th birthday. Oh MY GOD. Is this possibly true? 70? Seriously? Yes - and that is the reason I extended my trip. I am headed up to Liverpool tomorrow. On Saturday night - the 9th - Curtis Stigers (one of my favorites) will be doing a concert called "The John Lennon Songbook" at Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. While I am not a huge Beatles fan, I couldn't miss this one given that I was already going to be here in London. Curtis does a GREAT rendition of "Jealous Guy."
