Yusufs' Art to be displayed at 'Stars on Canvas'

Stars on Canvas - online exhibition & Auction:

Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam has contributed a signed canvas to the Willow Foundation's Stars on Canvas online auction. The canvas will join 300 others by stars of stage, screen, art, music and fashion in an eBay auction to be held from Friday 26th November to Sunday 5th December 2010. All information can be found on www.willowfoundation.org.uk/starsoncanvas. All the canvases would make unique and unusual Christmas presents. Stars on Canvas will also be holding a public exhibition in London at the Catto Gallery, Hampstead, NW3 from 2nd-5th December where all the canvases can be viewed. Well known faces from the worlds of sport, art, design, fashion, music and entertainment have drawn on their artistic skills in aid of the charity. The result is a fun, colourful and enlightening exhibition at the Catto Gallery, Hampstead, which will be open to the public from 2 to 5 December 2010. More than 200 canvases will be sold online through an eBay auction, starting on 26 November, with bidding closing on 5 December 2010. Yes, but if you go to the site and look it up, it shows that he didn't actually paint it. I was so disappointed.

Anita Zolas is Yusuf's sister. So the artwork is from his sister and the poem on the other side is written by Yusuf.

It seems that Yusuf agreed to use "Miles from Nowhere" and his name, but I'm sure he didn't expect the promoters to imply that he painted something that he didn't actually paint.

Hopefully, your post will make Yusuf aware of this.

Oh, yes, Anita! Thank you, Glaucus! So, they should simply and clearly say that it's Yusuf's sister's painting. I don't think anyone would mind.

Never crossed my mind it was Yusufs sister Anita. Thankyou Glaucus. Seems the artistic streak runs in the family. Well even if it's not Yusufs painting, by writing the poem and signing the painting, it goes towards supporting a very good cause. I'm sure Yusuf is aware of this.

Yes, he's surely aware that his poem and signature will help to support a good cause. But Yusuf can't possibly be aware that people are being inadvertently led to believe that he painted the canvas himself when in fact it was painted by his sister.

For example, on the first page of the Willow Foundation Stars on Canvas 2010 website, they say these things (italics mine):

"... an exhibition of 20x20 cm canvases, each created by a different star. Well known faces from the worlds of sport, art, design, fashion, music and entertainment have drawn on their artistic skills in aid of the charity."

"VIEW MUSIC CANVASES including pictures by Stereophonics (left), Cat Stevens (centre), Razorlight (right), Tony Hadley, Roger Daltrey, Blur, David Essex, Fun Lovin' Criminals, The Saturdays and many more ...

I'm sure this is an unintentional mistake by the Willow Foundation. But it's very easy to fix. They simply need to make it clear upfront that the painting is by "Cat Steven's sister" and not "Cat Stevens". (Putting aside the fact that they didn't use the name Yusuf.) And I just think that it's important to say it right so that the Willow Foundation and Yusuf won't lose people's trust.

Really don't now Glassworld They both alive and from what i know from older stuff i know his sister believe very much as Catholiek but i don't now if she is converted
