Hi all Majicatters,
What exciting times we're living in. Firstly I get to see Yusuf playing keyboards in his own unique style once again (albeit on YouTube) and now the treat of Harold and Maude, featuring Cat's soundtrack, on TV this week! For those in the UK it's on Sky Indie at 8.25pm this Thursday. For anyone out there who hasn't seen it (and there can't be many on this forum!) it's a must see!
Best to all, Chris

I own the DVD! I saw it when I was young (just for the music) and couldn't really appreciate it. Now that I'm older (lots!), the movie is much more enjoyable. I think I'll watch it myself Thursday night....simply for the fun of it! :-)

First time I seen this movie was in "71, when it first came out. It has been my favorite movie since. Went to a midnight show at the theater about a month ago with my daughter. She remembers it well. I played it all the time. I did keep up with the times though, first Beta, then VHS and finally DVD. I haven't been able to find it in Blue Ray. The reason I went to see it in the first place was because of Cat Stevens. Every time you watch it, you will find something else you missed. Even if its your 100th time. A must see for anyone who hasn't seen it yet or hasn't seen it in years.

Did you know that Elton John was considered to play Harold and do the soundtrack? Wow! Of course Elton was not chosen but suggested a fellow brit known as Cat Stevens for the music!
And... In July of 1971, as the film was being edited, Hal Ashby got a phone call saying that Cat wanted to quit the film because of his busy schedule. Ashby flew to Paris to meet with Cat and convinced him to let them use the songs. Phew!!
From: Being Hal Ashby: life of a Hollywood rebel.
Oh and I love the quote from Ashby at the beginning of the H&M chapter: "I was so loaded on that film, I could hardly walk.... I was lucky I didn't fall in the bay". ;D

I always enjoy these choice tidbits of Cat/Yusuf lore that you possess the great gift (and knack!) for unearthing... Many thanks, friend! -Bud

I have to confess that I had never seen the movie "Harold and Maude" until 2 weeks ago. (runs for cover... ) I was reading an interesting article tonight about age, and they mention "Harold and Maude" and include the movie trailer with Cat Stevens music of course. There is also an ongoing feature where they compile readers nominations for songs with various themes. The current one is songs with the theme of age. "Oh Very Young" is nominated. I was thinking "Father and Son" would be good too; many other Yusuf/Cat Stevens songs would fit that category. Interesting reading. Nominate songs if you like: www.theguardian.com/music/musicblog/2015/jan/01/readers-recommend-songs-about-ages

The British Film Institute (BFI) in London ran an "Audience Choice" poll to see which classic social commentary film they would show on January 18. 'Harold and Maude' has won out (I can't recall the other choices), so it's clear that it's still much-loved by many people!
