Not bad at all...at least they have superb taste in music. Yes they have perfect taste. ;D Their style may not appeal to most Yusuf fans, but it makes me very happy this new generation will be introduced to Yusufs music, which may lead to a new fresh following.

Well, because we have 2 threads about the same subject, I'll post this also on this one This is very, very interesting... 'Sons of Admiral' video today counts 866 924 views (in only 5-6 days!!!) ... but one more interesting thing... with this video is also a link to YouTube Cat's original version of song, so it is very interesting to read a lot of new comments about the song, mostly posted by very young generations, so with this new cover even Cat Yusuf will gain some new follovers

I checked this out and while it's a little off beat, it's fun, it's light-hearted and everyone there is just having a fun time. You gotta realise the comments are coming mostly from girls who get their crushes on boys. There's nothing wrong here. I read some of the comments. It's all, for the most part, innocent fun. I watched one of his other videos too (about Dr Who - yep, I'm a Dr Who fan). You get to see him just being a normal and nice all round fellow. His mum comes in and has a little chat too. This looks like a happy family. Come on majicatters, don't be so harsh. Take another ride on the Peace Train!

Really nice to see you back on the boards Jonathan!
I agree. I checked this out too and it doesn't seem irreverent or a joke to me, just a spin on the original (which I loved by the way!).
In 1966 when Cat Stevens emerged on the scene, the music of that era was very different - things were highly orchestrated and over arranged in general but Cat's music: Matthew and Son, I Love my Dog etc were so bright and cheerful and the tunes were fantastic. I have always loved melodies and Cat's were as good as I'd ever heard. If you haven't heard the early stuff check out Lovely City and Ceylon City for great melodies. Some of the early stuff was a bit sugary for me like Come on Baby Shift that Log or I'm so Sleepy but surely others might find that these are their very favourites - after all we are all different. So the artist who varies what he does is likely to appeal to more people and Yusuf/Cat does that really well - probably better than anyone else in my opinion.
My favourite Cat albums are MBJ TFT and Tand F but that early stuff is really nostalgic for me and I still love it! It's nice to see that younger people are still discovering it and put the effort into giving their own renditions whether we like them or not.
Best to all,
Novim

I totally agree Novim. I love the early albums! One of my faves is "Bad Night". It seems almost ahead of its' time with the tempo changes and such. I also always liked "Moonstone", very catchy tune. And as you all know...I gotta have something to dance to! ;D I think the remake by the "Sons of Admirals" is very current. The hairstyles, ages, etc. Their hair is no more outrageous than say...the Beatles, back in my day. My Dad used to refer to them as "mop headed terrorists coming to steal the minds of our young people who follow them like sheep"! Who cared, they were cute, cool, and talented. I'd scream for them TODAY!! These young boys and their fans are no different than we were! I hope young people DO enjoy Cat's music, there's room on the train for them too! ;D my 2 cents

I agree with Jon, Novim and Richina. I don't think there is anything disrespectful about not mentioning Cat Stevens in the video comments. The comments are being made by kids who couldn't care less whose song it is - only about the boys singing it. I'm sure there were plenty of Sam Cook fans who weren't too crazy about Cat's version of "Another Saturday Night." We will never like a cover as much as we like a Cat/Yusuf original and really, it's not even fair to compare them.
These kids obviously have a genuine interest in music or they would never have even heard or considered this song. I say good for them and I hope they continue to be inspired by good music.
