I've seen the 12" white label promo record - Special Disco Version - listed on ebay for anywhere from $15 to over $100. But I'm trying to understand this... this 12" w/the white cover and sticker of a dog looking suspiciously like a doughnut was released in 1977. Then, was it rereleased in 2007 with a blue label? I also just saw a 7" in a regular A&M sleeve. I've also seen pictures of this record that look a little different. Was this song a B-side to a single? I don't see it listed on any albums. Anybody know the scoop?... the originals and any reincarnations of this record? Much appreciate it!

Was dog a doughnut was a b side to a single and as far as I'm aware was released on the album 'Izitso'- I'm not sure about any rereleases though.

I've seen the same thing on E Bay, and it sounds like a scam of some sort. Yes, Was Dog a Donut was released in IZITSO!

speaking of scams..I saw on E bay yesterday an autographed CS Greatest Hits CD! It was signed "Cat Stevens" Anybody remember CD's being around in the late '70's?? And does the seller really think that any CS/YI fan wouldn't know it was fake? I thought about filing a report with E bay, but didn't. What do ya'll think...should I?

Hi Vivian, I don't think the record is a scam actually. It was one of the very first DJ disco records. I do remember reading somewhere that Cat, or someone working with him created this remix for disco dance club use, which of course were huge in the 70's. I should know because I lived at those places, ha ha... do the hustle da da da da.... And actually the mix fits right in with the era. I'm trying to find out if it was rereleased recently. 12" vinyl is still be spinned by DJs in dance clubs around the world. But this record dates back to '77. I guess I know more about this than I thought, ha ha.

I don't understand the original question, but I can say that yes, WDaD was released first as the B-side to Sweet Jamaica, and then after SJ failed to take off, they flipped the single and made WDaD the A-side for awhile. I've never heard the extended remix but I'd like to.
Why would a signed CD of Greatest Hits be a fake? No, there were no CDs in the 70s, but couldn't he have autographed one later? Is it that he never would have signed anything but Yusuf in the 80s?

hmmm if I could see that signature I would know because I have everyone one of his albums up to Foreigner Suite signed Cat Stevens.. and I have a couple of those Izitso YoYos.. which basically has his signature on it too! x I would report it to Ebay .. I went on Ebay and saw one like that .. and I wrote the girl and said there is no way that that is a Cat Stevens autograph believe me I know! She closed shop in 2 days.. maybe she reopened with another name .. She has so to speak autographs of many Musicians.. none are authenticated ! I say report them to Ebay .. for namesake xo

Thanks for the input about the bogus autograph. CS had already changed his name before CD's came out, which is why I knew it was fake. I'm sure some poor soul bought it though. As for WDaD, the original 12" came out in '77 and there was a re-release later. You can tell the difference by the label on the vinyl. The '77 "A&M" is smaller, than on the later version, and is slightly askew under the hole. Everything else looks identical on each. Hope this helps.

I have an autographed album from "Cat Stevens" on Vinyl(Catch Bull at Four) I saw Yusuf in Orlando at the University of Central Florida in 2001. Many fans had things that they wanted autographed. He signed those Yusuf Islam.

Was Dog a Doughnut remixes are amazing!!!! Remixes, plural? Where if anywhere might these be available? Alright, everything on Earth is available these days via computer, but my pathetic computing device doesn't handle audio, long boring story. Did the 12" have multiple remixes, all there are? Or do you have to buy some other release for further remixes? I don't really expect to get the vinyl or a record turntable soon, so are they on CD?
