Hi Everyone! Hope you're all enjoying Roadsinger, his long cape, and his hat!
One of the intriguing songs on the album, for me, is "This Glass World". Here are the lyrics (according to a website found via google): -------------------------------------- In this glass world, we stop feeling pain, going nowhwere, we've got everything, In this glass world, people who live below, wish they were here, just looking in
In this glass world (x3)
In this glass world, we bathe by starlight, no troubles here, that's on the outside, In this glass world, sittin' without a cake, no need to move, it's way too nive up here
In this glass world (x3) -----------------------------------------
Now, I love Roadsinger, however some songs are just way too dark, and I try to avoid listening to them, because I don't like it when people keep talking about how the world is dark and it needs to be saved, even if those people are ones I love, like Yusuf! To me, the world doesn't need people worrying about it, but it can use people who care for it.
So the song "This Glass World" is interesting because I can't figure it out. I guess it sounds like a happy song that celebrates life when it is clear as glass. But I keep feeling like it may have sarcasm.. does Yusuf mean to say that the happiness is short lived and can be shattered easily like a fragile glass cup? To me it sounds like this song is happy and dark at the same time.
What do you think?

It's about we living in our luxery looking to our windows best nowing that the world has a lot of poor ones and say we wont to change that but don't do because there is no need to, we don't feel what it is can't imagine to be poor poor have nothing at all.And those poor people from below sees our wealth and they wish to be us.We living in a cocon of glass and feel save but fragile .Why can't he tell us the true like it is . If you live in wealth it's so easy to forget ,we need to admit that and you see the people who have nothing are most of the time very generous for others. you now Yusuf or Cat shows us in his songs things we need to think about and its to us to change that .

Similarly, the searing "World O' Darkness" features some of Yusuf's most plaintive vocals ever captured on disc, often pierced by his piquant guitar work. Just as he examines war on "Darkness," on the yearning "This Glass World" he questions how we've isolated ourselves from others with our material possessions. This was in the interview that Haditje placed here on the board Regii

Thanks for the explanations! That makes it clear. I guess was wishing it was a happy song, but I understand its meaning now. It is more realistic than dark.
