It's just beautiful in it's simplicity! Short, but powerful slogans! The intention and the message count. Remember "Indian Ocean" it's quiete simple, too, but I like it!

I agree, Gabi and Soitis. I think the same has been expressed in another thread. The intention was not to be a great hit song, but rather a powerful message to bring people together. I like it more each time I listen.

a powerful message to bring people together
Yes,Yusuf is again showing why we love him so much. Very simple but with message to all dictators and usurpers to leave their people alone. This is on the trace from the seventy's when all people wonted peace on the earth and human rights. We in communist countries were in similar position then as people on the middle east are now. And that is what Yusuf has sensed right now.And he is using his talent to HELP. That shows his great HUMANITY

Kinda reminds me of Lennon's "Give Peace a Chance." Low quality recording, a simple song, lots of people joining in the chorus, powerful in its message. Not that this is a low quality recording, but otherwise, know what I mean? I never cared for that song either, just to listen to, but I'm glad it's there.

Listened to it for a second time and it's grown on me already with just one more listen. I think the melody is very pretty - it kind of reminds me of something Paul McCartney might write - Ram On comes to mind for some reason.
I'm with you Peacock - not a fan of Give Peace a Chance either - the song that is. I would say My People is superior to that one by miles, though I do get what you mean.

I think songs like this (songs with a purpose?) have a unique place. I was never a big fan of "Give Peace a Chance" but I was in Liverpool on what would have been John's 70th birthday. To hear a large crowd of people sing that song at the memorial ceremony was an incredible experience, and I imagine it will be that way with this song as well. I predict we will see videos on Youtube of him singing this at the upcoming concerts.

When I finally found time to sit in quiet and listen reallllly listen to "My People" I realized that Yusuf created a song or as he likes to say sometimes , a song that created itself ... reminiscent to a sincere cry .. a prayer of thirst from "The Pulse" of the people demanding what is their Birthright .. From "One Heritage"
and.. the twill of the notes or the "riff" at the end of the song .. seals it to perfection ...its like an Amen ..!!! What a beautiful twill!! xoxo I feel as long as Yusuf keeps mentioning that this song is written in the tense of the people that are crying out their anthem .... It will be understood - there are some that dont go that far "into"...to understand its meaning perhaps? so it will reveal quite alot for everyone perhaps like it has for me .. 'My People' is brilliant and beyond the thinker ... its simplistic cry is the depth and intensity of the soul and the innate impulse in us to fight for what is our Birthright!!!! Thank you for being beautiful you Yusuf... for it is so beautiful when music is used to create such a meaningful message and a sincere human cry ...it will always reveal more and more ... xo

ha ha - so cute. I have to watch that DVD again soon!
I wonder if Yusuf is amused or embarrassed when he sees that. Well obviously his fans love it! I guess he could have edited it out (say that three times fast!) so he's probably cool with it. Sooooo 1970's...

coocoooca choo..... lol ... @sabina .. are you trying to say something about my writing Sabina??? I didnt understand your comment .. please explain maybe you mean Yusuf being poetic or what I said . was artistic or .. is poetic??? .. I'm confused ..... lol.... i def dont want to come on like anything other than me xooxoxo just came from the heart ... :)Hi,you should know me well enough now !!!!THWACK!..of course I was saying that not only do I wish I could be as laconic as soitis at times..... but ALSO Iwould also like to able to make melodies (artistic +poetic)with my words as you do!! ;D :DI'm all for peops being true to their hearts!!!and we can do it here without fear or censure....thats one of the reasons I feel privilidged to be with you all!!!!! :)I however sometimes cant quite say properly what I mean as too many threads still entangled...too much adrenaline still foggin brain(or is that indeed a clarity that I dont recognize? Its been toooooo long! .so sometimes I come across as an incoherent......reminds me of some guys from the past who also were also so on the odd occasion!!!!!AND no ashtrays in my vicinity either!!!!! ;D ;)katmandu..............

:)Hi,YES I too adore all the small unedited bits.....and the big ones !! (In real life out here on the other side of Majicat I also often innocently say things that others find another meaning to;,but as that says more about them NOT me it usually evokes a laugh rather than censure...like on this forum.....I love you guys!!!

My People...Recorded in Berlin with voices from around the world, filmed in Dubai, edited in Kuala Lumpur the film mimics the colourful spirit of the 70s yet reflects the powerful march of people today hopefully heading towards a new dawn of freedom.
I wont to add:THIS IS WHY WE LOVE YOU
