Cat Stevens has a lot of songs that, despite the simplicity of words , their meanings are hard to find. Yes sometimes lyrics are just a story, but Stevens' songs are very personal... So let's discuss here about the "meanings " . I want to know, what does Sad Lisa means to you ? I think it's a strange song , a sad one.. and i think it's just a story or a 'song' to a very sad and close girl to Cat . [There are some interesting interpretations here : www.songmeanings.net/songs/view/12784/#comment ]

Longer Boats is a meaningful song, which features all, including the third verse that says the lines "Raise your mind up and look around, you may see them, yes, looking down, on a lonely asteroid in a vacant void, dying, but not destroyed." That song he sung was obviously to do with spaceships or flying saucers, but it appealed to him in those early days of Tea For The Tillerman which was everyone's favourite album.

I don't think Sad Lisa is about anybody else. I think it's about his inner self - another side to him that he's trying to figure out. Don't we all have one of those?

On the Majikat DVD he says he wrote it for a real friend but then goes on to say that maybe it has more to do with him than it has to do with Lisa. So, it seems that even he is not sure what it is about...

My mother offered my birthday gifts in advance, and she bought the Majikat dvd ( ) . I had already seen some fragment of the DVD and sometimes he speaks of his songs including Sad Lisa... But I haven't had yet time to watch the DVD, I think I wait for my birthday ..And listen him carefully... But I agree sometimes Cat talks more about him than other people in his song, he hides himself beneath the persons in his songs.. Lady D'Arbanville also is a strange song.. Describe your girlfriend like a dead Lady is strange.. Maybe the lady is the love which is die ..

They were both real people. Lady Lady D'Arbanville is Patty D'Arbanville. Esraa, you may want to look through this Song Discussions section. I'm pretty sure there is a thread on Lady D'Arbanville and I think one for Sad Lisa, too - and many others. I'm sure you will find them very interesting. PS - welcome to Majicat. I can tell you are enjoying it already!

I know that she's Patti D'Arbanville But I just said, it's strange to show his girlfriend as a dying woman, I think the lady was a metaphor for their love, which disappeared .. And thank you for your welcome Jane !

I think On The Road To Find Out is a meaningful song, which he talks about his search for his true identity to spiritual quest. The lines in the song are optimistic, especially at the end bit which says "Yes, the answer lies within, so why not take a look now, kick out the devil's sin, pick up, pick up a good book, now" I remember watching an interview of Cat/Yusuf in a documentary, called Imagine, by Alan Yentob, and in it, he said he was just talking about the power of a good book, not the Qur'an. I think he mentioned that he wrote it on purpose, without knowing what the resolution would be then

Yes all of Cats songs are very meaningful, but he doesn't give limits to his songs, so his lyrics can mean different things to different people.. And he did very poetic songs even if they look very simple.. I think when you do artistic things, you mustn't give limits to yourself, and to what you want to mean or do.. I believe it's for that reasons that find a meaning to some songs or artworks is hard.Because imagination has no limits

And thank you for your welcome Jane ! not a dying woman but a dead one in a coffin .. I love it!! I so love it and think its one of the greatest stories ever told by depths of soul . and one alot of souls can relate to ... similar to the first cut is the deepest as well, and it always is to everyone .. one knows betrayal for the first time and many other things perhaps ...

I think this song is a way that he sees life and love at that moment .. its one of his best written songs .. on depth and a visual that knows no end to the depth!!! I see nothing strange in it but .. well then .... Im a bit out "there" I suppose ! ;D

Lady D'Abanville has another place in my heart , because it's the first song that I listened from Cat .. And i got strange feelings when i listened this one, because i got the feeling that i have already listened this song but no.. After this song i became a huge fan of Cat Stevens because his songs are very attaching.. I knew who was Yusuf Islam but no more and i don't knew Cat Stevens, he was my best meeting of this year !
