Hey everyone , Just thought I make a thread. Lets see, yeh make a list of your favourite songs(1 to 10) of Yusuf as Cat stevens and as Yusuf. You can also give description where they were sung, what year, what album. Mine goes like this; Yusuf as Cat Stevens1. Father and Son (Island record Promo) 2. Peace Train (Majikat Earth Tour) 3. Lady D'arnville (Majikat Earth Tour) 4. Moonshadow (from Teaser and Firecat Album) 5. The Wind (Teaser and Firecat Album) 6. Wild World (Majikat Earth Tour) 7. Longer Boats extended version (BBC live 1971) 8. Boy with a moon and Star on his head (Catch bull at Four) 9. Sitting (Catch Bull at four) 10. How can I tell you (Teaser and Firecat) Yusuf as Yusuf1. Roadsinger (Roadsinger) 2. World of Darkness (Roadsinger) 3. Where do the children play (Royal Porchester hall performance) 4. In the End (Royal Porchester Hall Performance) 5. Welcome Home (Roadsinger) 6. All Kind of Roses (Roadsinger) 7. Father and Son (Shephard Bush Empire) 8. May there is a world and The Beloved (An other cup) 9. Dream on... (Roadsinger) 10. One day at a time (An other cup) I must admit when writing the list of my favourite songs, I felt it unfair to restrict it to top 10 because all of yusuf songs fall into the top anyway. Have fun making your list and have a great weekend . Peace.

Great topic, catchem! We Majicatters will have fun with this one. Talk about having an embarrassment of riches to choose from... wow! For the purpose of my lists, I shall include only 'officially released' recordings... Yusuf as Cat Stevens (Subject to change... D-A-I-L-Y!): 1) King of Trees (Buddha & The Chocolate Box, 1974) 2) Lilywhite (Mona Bone Jakon, 1970) 3) How Can I Tell You (Teaser & The Firecat, 1971) 4) Oh Very Young (Buddha & The Chocolate Box, 1974) 5) Into White (Tea For The Tillerman, 1970) 6) The Wind (Teaser & The Firecat, 1971) 7) I Want To Live In A Wigwam (Mona Bone Jakon sessions, '70) 8) Two Fine People (Greatest Hits, 1975) 9) Jzero (Numbers, 1975) 10) Just Another Night (Back To Earth, 1978) Yusuf as Yusuf (Loved the way you put that, catchem!): 1) Thinking 'Bout You (Roadsinger, 2009) 2) Midday [Avoid City After Dark] (An Other Cup, 2006) 3) Welcome Home (Roadsinger, 2009) 4) Maybe There's A World (An Other Cup, 2006) 5) Peace Train (Footsteps In The Light, 2006) 6) Roadsinger (Roadsinger, 2009) 7) Be What You Must (Roadsinger, 2009) 8) One Day At A Time (An Other Cup, 2006) 9) Wild World [Bana, Bana] (Footsteps In The Light, 2006) 10) Greenfields, Golden Sands (An Other Cup, 2006) Whew! One of the hardest things I've ever had to do... but I had one heck of a good time doing it. -Bud

Sir Lorry Load, I am glad you enjoyed making the list but I must confess that list was rather hard to make myself. Like you said too many gems too little to choose. Have a great sunday.

I cheated with Yusuf as Yusuf - I have 11 songs on that list. I don't know why it was harder to whittle that list down to 10, but it was. Here goes:

Thank you so much, catchem, and I hope that you are having a nice Sunday, as well. I greatly enjoyed reading the lists that you and Jane formulated, and I can't wait to see what some more of our fellow Majicatters choose as their top ten favorites. Again, you've come up with a really neat topic! -Bud

Say, Viv, I really like your list (I love the fact that you have included Yusuf's appearance on Jay Leno!), and may I say that you have exquisite taste! I see that Jane has included selections from the "9 Lives" demo recordings that were done at Morgan Studios in her top ten. Wow, is that a SUPERB collection! A very kind and thoughtful Majicatter generously provided me with a copy of this gem, and I just can't play it enough. In fact, if I were to have included selections other than 'official/commercial' releases among my "Yusuf as Cat Stevens" top ten, a majority of 'em might very well have been from "9 Lives"... it is that great! -Bud

Even though I often come to this page to read everyones favourites, and think "yes that's my favourite too", I have not yet attempted to make such a list. It would take a lot of thought, but it's so nice to be reminded of all the different versions of some songs. Soitis, I really liked how you also wrote the words that stand out in your mind, next to your favourite songs. I think we relate to some words in a special way. They seem to touch our heart with a sweet ache. Can't explain it any other way.

Still in the Cat Stevens era, and here are some faves which my parents like to listen to, but with just my vocals, starting with my Dad's favourite.
As Cat Stevens
Sad Lisa Father & Son Hard-Headed Woman The Boy With The Moon And Star On His Head I Never Wanted (To Be A Star (IZITSO) I'm Gonna Be King Blackness Of The Night (with zither) Crazy (IZITSO) Wild World Where Do The Children Play Miles From Nowhere
But I do love to play my zither, and pick each chord to make a pitched sound, to sing along with it

AND HERE'S A FEW MORE OF THE FAVES How about Morning Has Broken I Want To Live In A Wigwam Foreigner Suite How Many Times Last Love Song Randy Don't Be Shy I've Got A Thing About Seeing My Grandson Grow Old Hey, Tiff, I really like all of the choices that you've been listing. I'd especially like to wish you and your Mom a glorious time at the Yusuf concert at the RAH in London. I know how long you've waited for this evening, and I am so happy for you that the big night is near. To Tiffany, her Mom, and to all you Majicatter attendees: enjoy the times of your lives at the upcoming shows (which I know that you will)... and then please hurry back to Majicat to tell us every memorable detail (which you always so thoughtfully do)! -Bud

Great hearing from you, Bud, and as I always say in all of my emails "many grateful and kind thanks for thinking of me. Yes, the 8th is on its way, and Mum and I are looking forward to seeing Yusuf's performance live at the RAH, and yes, this is the event we've waited eagerly for, since his coverting to the Islamic faith, which us fans were mystified, unwilling, and unable to understand why the music ended abruptly, but we're all glad to hear that his music brought us back, after all this time.

I've never heard anything recorded as Yusuf. A low fixed income is mostly responsible for that, including a computer with very limited capabilities.
Miles From Nowhere Trouble Maybe You're Right Hard Headed Woman I Wish I Wish Katmandu I Think I See The Light Lilywhite Where Do The Children Play? But I Might Die Tonight Sad Lisa
I hate not getting to other albums, but MBJ and TftT tower over the others so much that I really couldn't...

I'm sorry you can't enjoy Yusuf's latest stuff Creeper. You are really missing a treat....but hey, we only got him back a few years ago so there's still time for you to catch up! If you have to live with only his older music...well, you could do worse! Like none at all ...I shiver at the thought! Enjoy what you have, we ALL know how fabulous it is! ;D ;D

When I was fourteen, I was introduced to a stringed musical instrument known as the zither, and ever since then, I've had great fun playing it. I play it by using the chords, to make a gentle tone. I like playing this zither, and I sing along with it. At the moment I'm writing a song about Cat/Yusuf, which I hope all fans of Majikat will enjoy hearing very soon, with other Cat Stevens songs.

Well, now I want to play the zither. It's like when you hear someone else has a fly in his soup, suddenly you want one too.... I'd love to be able to say to someone, "I play the zither, you know." "Zither" is fun to say as well. Zither.
Thanks belatedly, richina!
My thought when looking through all these favorites lists tonight is first, how radically different they are, not at all greatest hits lists which is what I might have expected, given how people tend to go with what's popular....
My main thought is that it's interesting to look at the top ten of each individual (Cat, since I still don't know a single Yusuf song), linger on the choices... then try to get a feel for what the individual listener is like, based on an amalgamation of the emotional impressions from all of the songs. The lists are all very different. None of these lists are what I'd have guessed any one person would have chosen. There are surprises with every choice. What, she lists x as #1... and y as #2?! Often I can't imagine the personality that would combine those #1 and #2 choices.
That's a good thing. Individual personalities should confound our expectations. We should be surrounded in life by an infinite crowd of apparently impossible people, who like impossible combinations of things as if it were the most natural thing in the world. We should not be easily understandable to each other, because that's the adventure of life.
