Hi everyone I have a question regarding the line " you will be my fill ", I understand the literal meaning of the words but I don't understand the meaning of the whole phrase . Does anyone know what cat meant?

He's always refering to how his eyes get filled. Maybe he's making reference to that. His waking her up so he can look at her or "fill his eyes" with her as she was before her death, like maybe it was just a bad dream. Just like in the song Fill my Eyes, same thing. Fill my eyes is just a poetic way of saying taking in a sight.

Thanks Very interesting interpretation...If I understand it right, It's like a metaphor for filling yourself with memories and with the sight of the person for the future so you can fill your mind with them when you need to ? Is that what ''fill " means maybe ? does anyone has any comment on this issue?

I always thought it was "fille", and Steve was using creative license and pronouncing it fill.

It just means he'll get his fill. Kinda like a drug. He'll get all he needs from her and he needs nothing else.
(*I* think)

I always thought it was "fille", and Steve was using creative license and pronouncing it fill. 'Fille' is french for daughter, so I guess that would be inappropriate.

I always thought it was "fille", and Steve was using creative license and pronouncing it fill. 'Fille' is french for daughter, so I guess that would be inappropriate. According to my French/English dictionary, 'fille' can also mean simply girl, not necessarily one's child. In old-fashioned usage, 'fille' meant a maiden or unmarried woman. So Bookworm may very well have a point. It's an interesting hypothesis, at any rate. I'd always thought the same as Lucy & Regine, that she was his everything, so to speak. But Bookworm's idea has appeal. hmmm. Must think about this some more... Shunra, thanks for bringing this up again. You're right, it is interesting! joni...

I enjoyed reading through this thread; it's interesting because I love that line of the song, but was never sure if he was saying, "you will be my fill" or "you will be my fail." Either way, it's intriguing.

You're my morning cup-o-coffee... you're my morning sunrise... you're my first breathe of air... you're my first sight of the morning and I'm sure she was his last beautiful sight before his eye's closed at night...

In the song that love is dying, slipping from his hands like when someone is dying and you try to revive him but it doesn't help,a feeling of helplessness of losing your loved one..but still in the song he says that he will wake her tomorrow,he is in no hurry to save her life now, when he feels that life is running out of her...maybe it's a metaphor for not being aware that the love you have with someone is already dead ..or you are afraid to acknowledge that and you think tomorrow the love you share will come back to life...does anyone has another interpretation ?

An old thread, but there aren't many new posts to answer. Anyway, maybe it just needed to be said, perhaps to people who don't have English as a first language, that people talk about, say, "drinking my fill", meaning drinking as much as you want. So "you will be my fill" just means "I'll drink you in until I'm full", or "I'll experience you fully".
"In the morning when you fill my eyes" just means "I wake up and take in the vision of you", or "I'm overwhelmed by the sight of you".

OK. I was listening to Pick of the Pops yesterday on Radio 2 with Tony Blackburn, and this week's hits were from 1970 and 1990. In 1970 the Cat returned to the pop era, after being ill with TB. ,Growing a beard, and returning with his first hit, which reached as high as No.8 with the beautiful ballard Lady D'Arbanville, and listening to it, really brought back vintage memories of a handsome young man, which every female longed to meet. His voice was so distinctive and pure, and his good looks were beguiling
