the year was probably 1972 and I was 16. Here in Oz,the Teaser album was a monster! On the back of Tillerman it made him the biggest recording star in the music firmament. I had been a total fan since first hearing Father and Son.
Anyway, every track off Teaser was being played on the radio. I was wondering whether he could do it again. I was sulking in a teenage tantrum for some reason I no longer recall in my room when onto the radio comes Wigwam. I loved the song instantly. Still do. Then came Catch Bull at Four.
Another triumph. It was a great time to be a Cat fan.
Sadly Foreigner came next and didn't cut it for me.

It's still great to be a fan - though we can't expect to love every single song. And I think he can do it yet again! ~Sun~

I don't think I ever heard Wigwam on the radio here. I hadn't heard it until 1984, when Footsteps in the Dark was released. What an exciting moment that was. To hear a brand new Cat Stevens song. Well, it was new to me at least. (Oh} I do remember seeing Wigwam as the B side of Morning Has Broken 45rpm in the 5 and dime stores. But, I was a kid back then, broke and didn't have a penny to my name. So, I just looked at the 45 and saved up to buy the Teaser LP eventually. How funny it is, and even pleasant, (as silly as this may sound) to have a memory of only looking at a 45rpm in a 5 and dime store.

I was working in London the day that Catch Bull was released. I remember doing the round of West End record shops and it was being played in every one of them.
Foreigner didn't go down too well with everyone I know, but sold huge numbers and personally I loved it :-)

I remember my first memory of Cat. I was 11 years old and I remember him singing I Love my Dog. On the front of all my books was written "I love Cat" And picturers of him stuck into my desk.

Hey Christine : Did they really have 5 and Dime Stores. How cute. I guess we have the 2 dollar shop now,(in Oz anyway). It was a great time to be a Cat fan- I can't imagine an album being released today and all the stations playing every track.

Waterice Believe it or not, they actually did.... boy do I feel old knowing they are all gone now. We have the Dollar General stores as well. But, they aren't the type of store that will hold a young teens memory 30 years from now....

Five and dime stores? I'm too young to remember those! ;D I remember buying Beatle albums in Woolworth's as a young teen and buying singles in the drug store where you could also sit at the counter and have a soda or milkshake. I miss those stores! In my neck of the woods, Woolworth's was like an institution and even after I had my girls, it was the number one place to shop for Easter candy and stocking stuffers. How sad it was when it went out of business. The Walmarts and Targets finally sentenced that store to death I think. I don't really remember where I picked up my first Cat album but it was probably Woolworths or K Mart.

I just came across I Want to Live in a Wigwam on Youtube! Here are the lyrics. No wonder you love it - it's wonderful - very uplifting! ~Sun~

Yeah it is uplifting Suncatcher - a good word for that song.
The reason for the sulk probably cos the girl I was in LERVE with at the time didn't know I existed........ cue If I Laugh. Guess we've all been there.
Dunno why,I had the red Afro happening and a face so full of pimples I looked like a Pizza- plus the build of a fence post. Don't get the wrong idea though, apart from that I was a real honey !

You're much too hard on yourself, W! Thank goodness those awkward teenage years finally pass. Yes - we've all been there! ~Sun~

It was Lucy, or a very similar picture of the very photogenic Alfred E.
So sorry to digress with the classic cover above! But I just had to share, after Sun's mention of the great man.
I admire your honesty and humour Waterice. Don't we improve with age though?
Very best
George

I love the sound of the guitar in Wigwam. Which guitar is that? It's got such a nice, clear, high tone. Always one of my fave Cat songs.

The pimples are gone and in their place I retain the Cat Stevens shaped beard,(trimmed with the Teaser photo next to the shaving mirror- of course my beard is red),(and grey).
