Father and Son, Part Two - Thirty years On

I have just completed the lyrics to Father and Son, part two - Thirty years On....

I wrote it as if the same people were speaking, now, all there years later; the father from heavem, and the son wiser with age.

I also wrote it keeping in mind Yusuf's return to the music world and his reasons for this...

I hope that some of you might like it, and if you do i would love to hear your comment. . I am including it beneath this ...

Father and Son, Part Two – Thirty Years On.

Father:
It’s now time to make a change,
Not relax or take it easy.
You're grown up, that's so good,
But there’s still so much to do.
You’ve a wife, and a child,
You settled down, and you married.
I am gone, though I’m gone, I am happy.

I can now recall a time, and admit it wasn’t easy,
To be calm in the turmoil of my youth.
But I have travelled, journeyed on,
To a time, a place we all can reach.
Where our yesterdays and tomorrows are at peace with today.

Son:
You have no need to explain; though you’ve gone we are even closer.
The story’s still the same, it’s we have changed.
We were so caught up in talk it was impossible to listen.
It took me time, now I know I don’t have to go away.
I don’t have to go.

Father:
It’s a time for making change,
Get right on, and embrace it.
You're grown up, that's so good,
But there’s still so much you can do.
You’ve a wife, and a child,
You settled down, and you married.
I am gone, I am gone, but I’m happy.


Son:
No more times, wasted times, hiding truth I knew was deep inside,
It’s good, but even better in the sharing.
Yes, they were right, I agree, I’m free to know you and me.
Now I can see, and I know I don’t have to go away.
I don’t have to go.

Son:
My Father, you and I, we must not be kept apart by time,
We’ll soon be rejoined in the heavens.
Where time will be gone, removed forever from our minds
Thus set free we will know we don’t have to go away.

I think Yusuf would like your lyrics. Some parts really pull on the heart strings. The verse above reminds me of how nice it would be if Yoriyos would openly and publicly celebrate the fantastic fact that Yusuf is his father.

I can imagine that as a student in his "father's" school, everytime he got good grades, or a good part in a school play, or an award, that the jealous would say it was "only because of his father." So now, to avoid such accusations, he's taken the stance he has. I hope that he proudly stands on stage with his father long before Yusuf has "gone."

I would LOVE to hear what Yusuf thinks of it. I even sent him the words, care of Mountain of Light, Media City Dubai, thinking it would find its way to him, but sadly it was returned (insufficient address).

Very nice interpretation of the song. And a very nice idea too. I know Yusuf will think so too.
Also it's my opinion that because this is one of the only Cat/Yusuf sites and that this is even in his archives section on his web page, he's already seen it. He may have even played it in his living room with his guitar with Yoriyos singing as the son.

Hi Gerry,
I think part two is great, well done! I spoke to Yoriyos a few months ago and funny enough it was one thing I always wondered, would he ever duet with his dad on Father and Son. The answer was a very definite no, as he said he got on too well with his father to ever sing this song with him, which is fair enough! But you never know, part two might make him re-think ;D

Why don't you try sending a message to Yoriyos on his myspace, I think he may be more assessible than Yusuf and you will also hear what a fine artist he is in his own right! Good Luck.
