I was wondering like me when listing to Cat Stevens which one touches you the most and why..... My is How can I tell you That I love you because its reminds me of me wanting to tell someone that, I love them very much but I know deep down that he does`t feel the same about me..... Jan

There are a few songs that touch me very deeply, in very different ways. "How can I tell you" is definitely the most romantic love song I've ever heard, but "Sad Lisa" moves me because at one time in my youth I could have been "Sad Lisa". I saw myself in the character of Lisa.
Peace,Vivian

"How Can I Tell You" for pretty much the same reason as Jan's. For me, that song would be "Oh Very Young" and "The Little Ones" for my little niece, Holly who died so young. Peace,Vivian

I would say "Maybe your right" would be mine, my take on it.It's about the unrequited love of someone towards a friend..

:DI like them all but some can touch me deeper when i 'm in a special mood.I can get emotional when i hear Foreinger ,you hear his lonelyness his pain in it.The song i wont to live in a wigwam makes me happy and i always sing to when i hear it.In many songs you can feel the admosfeer like your walking in it like ruins..I hope his new songs do that to.Oh hopefully he give concerts ,see him one's live would be the max .Regine

Sweet Scarlet has always been my favourite. It reminds me of an unrequited teenage crush.

For me, it is quite hard to decide which song is best, or which song does touch me most. I'd say it depends on my mood, my feelings, and the situation in general.
Time/Fill My Eyes is a really raw diamond, which I really like. I have all Cat Stevens albums, plus previously unreleased songs. I really can't say which album or song is the best one. I like to listen, and like to play all of them. "Back To The Good Old Times" is also great, in my opinion.
One thing is true, though: "How Can I Tell You" is the most beautiful love song ever. It's really hard to top this love song - not even Lionel Richie could do it ^.^ Maybe You're Right, Maybe You're Wrong - really a master piece with so much truth in it, as in every song by Steve... - I think I gotta play it on guitar again... it's been a while...

OK, Jacky, let me ask you this, since you are a guitar player.
If you had a chance to play just one of cats songs for The CatMan himself, lets pretend it was for a studio audition. Which song would you play for Yusuf to land that job?

18th avenue is probably the best thing i've ever heard musically. unfortunately we always discuss cat stevens and forget what his musicians did to his music. Jan: can we do double tribute concerts?

OK, Jacky, let me ask you this, since you are a guitar player. If you had a chance to play just one of cats songs for The CatMan himself, lets pretend it was for a studio audition. Which song would you play for Yusuf to land that job? You may laugh, but I have always questioned this myself ... I would probably play a song he wouldnt even think of ever. None of his great hits, or master studio works: "Back To The Good Old Times", or even "Portobello Road" - raw songs that most people don't even know even when they are Steve's most passionate fans. Honestly said, it is really hard to copy Cat's songs. No one would ever seriously dare to due to his really great voice being in total harmony to his tunes. Almost every attempt failed miserably: there are many covers of "Wild World", "Father & Son", etc. - most of them are just a mere laugh, though they were professionally recorded, and sung by "world stars" (e.g. Johnny Cash - Father & Son). If you ever wanna listen to them: www.radioblogclub.com and type in the name of the song of your choice In my opinion, "even" Keating's Father & Son is really, really miserable - not only because of Ronan's miserable voice. But yes, to come back to the point, I would play one of his early studio recordings that would remind Steve of the "Good Old Times" back then. Playing, and singing "Father & Son" with him would be dream, too, of course ~Jacky

Too many. I'm skipping this one. It's so late (6 a.m.), I'll probably say my own piece tomorrow, it will be such a long deal, will you all excuse me for the same old long post? Amen.

And here I am, Regine and all of yous. 'Catch Bull at Four' is the album I generally was touched by the most. At first I approached it with mixed feelings, because I LOVE 'Sitting' but I'm not that fond on 'Can't Keep it in' and even 'O Caritas'... ... As soon as I heard songs like 'Sweet Scarlet', '18th Avenue', 'Silent Sunlight', 'Angelsea', 'Freezing Steel' but most of all 'Ruins' I was struck. Cat had developed a new style, enriching the old singer-songwriting camp with a clever use of keyboards, pushing himself closer to what was then called progressive rock, though still being Cat Stevens. Same happened to me when I approached 'Numbers' (took me years, there was no copy left in Italy until 10 years ago): its first half is immaculate, I couldn't pick just one song, it's just 'Whistlestar-Novim's Nightmare-Majik of Majiks-Drywood' to me... 'Foreigner Suite' was another great love of mine, but mind you, does this mean I only like complex songs? Not at all: 'Izitso' and 'Back to Earth' are really interesting albums, I do prefer them to 'Buddha' to be honest. 'Child for a Day' is top of my list, the same goes with 'Last Love Song' and 'Randy'. What about the 'big ones'? How could I even dare discussing 'Tea' or 'Teaser'? 'If I Laugh' is number one (soooo Genesis), 'On the Road to Find Out' too, 'The Wind', 'Peace Train', 'Hard-Headed Woman', on and on... As for 'Mona', I'll pick 'Maybe You're Right' up of course... Take a look at my signature...
