This is a very difficult question! I think I will go with The Beloved for its message and its world music flavor. Heaven runs a close second!

Here's the poem that the song is based upon, I love this so much!
One Whisper of the Beloved Lovers share a sacred decree – to seek the Beloved. They roll head over heels, rushing toward the Beautiful One like a torrent of water.
In truth, everyone is a shadow of the Beloved – Our seeking is His seeking, Our words are His words.
At times we flow toward the Beloved like a dancing stream. At times we are still water held in His pitcher. At times we boil in a pot turning to vapor – that is the job of the Beloved.
He breathes into my ear until my soul takes on His fragrance. He is the soul of my soul – How can I escape? But why would any soul in this world want to escape from the Beloved?
He will melt your pride making you thin as a strand of hair, Yet do not trade, even for both worlds, One strand of His hair.
We search for Him here and there while looking right at Him. Sitting by His side we ask, "O Beloved, where is the Beloved?"
Enough with such questions! – Let silence take you to the core of life.
All your talk is worthless When compared to one whisper of the Beloved.
~Rumi

This is really hard. I don't know yet. So far my favorites are Beloved, Secrets of a Spiritual Garden, Don't let me be Misunderstood. If pushed to vote I'd probably say Secrets, I love that instrumental work and the poem is nice too.

I am still limited to the website. Sigh. It is so clumsy. O well.
My family's group vote goes for 'Secrets of a Spiritual Garden'.
We like best the ones not too similar to his early stuff.

In the End is so moving, yet I haven't been able to pick an absolute favourite. Don't Let Me be Misunderstood speaks volumes. (Was always a favourite of mine when Santa Esmeralda sang it back in the 70's) Jackie

One Day at a Time is very Nick Drake-ish. Such a somber, melancholy song in tone. And Nick Drake-ish even down to the little tinkling sounds... what instrument is that, a glockenspiel? (like in "Northern Sky") Also Nick Drake-ish in its key and guitar style (except I think Nick had faster fingers!) AND in its piano!
(wonder if he's been listening to ND lately?? If so, awesome!)

My favorite is "Maybe There's A World". The live version to this, which I got through Borders, is just as good if not better. It's just amazing he can perform live so well that you can hardly tell them apart. "In The End" is also good, and "The Beloved". "There Is Peace" is not listed on the poll. It's a really good one too. The limited edition is available in the US. I have even seen it being sold in FYE. If you have a chance, get this one as well.

Thank you for calling attention to this, likecat! I didn't add it because it wasn't part of what I first got. Christine, is there a way that you can go in and add There is Peace to the poll?

(like in "Northern Sky") Also Nick Drake-ish in its key and guitar style (except I think Nick had faster fingers!) AND in its piano! (wonder if he's been listening to ND lately?? If so, awesome!) I can't say how much that Yusuf sounds like Nick Drake in this song, since I don't think I've ever listened to Mr. Drake. This song feels a little like some of Cat's songs to me (esp. the guitar work), but more settled and mature in its outlook, and very subtle and simple in its arrangement. maxkansascity, this song is, hands-down, my favorite on the album. I don't find it melancholy at all; rather, it feels very peaceful, sublimely peaceful. I feel it in my heart, I play it over and over. It almost feels like "Maybe There's a World" in its intent, but instead of putting the experience of acceptance and openness into another (possibly different) world, it plants the experience in this world. Love it. The instrument that lucy13 thinks might be a glockenspiel is a Chinese stringed instrument called a xiao ruan. It is also played in Whispers from a Spiritual Garden. Its delicate sound blends so beautifully with Yusuf's guitar and voice, I think. My favorite part of the song is when the xiao ruan comes in and Yusuf sings, "And if you meet the evening, don't wait for the sun to rise." Even after listening to the song at least 100 times, I still hold my breath a little right then. Bella

polygor,
That is one of the great moments on this album! Some people are saying that Yusuf's voice is weaker than it used to be (I don't agree, though he sounds slightly different), but it still gives me chills....
