Thought it was time for a new thread. Artistically speaking, I find it fascinating how several themes have seemed to repeat themselves over and over again throughout the musical career of our beloved artist. Some of his biggest themes seem to revolve around: House/Home Moon/Sun/Sky Children/Mums Trees/Nature I'm drawing a blank now..... (can't think of many when I'm not listening to his music. But it often hits me when I am.) Other thoughts?

I guess I mean symbols... not abstract ideas. Symbols that represent abstract ideas.

maybe I don't quit understand... How ever he sings of: spirit, questing/searching, love, anger, freedom to be, fun/imagination, hurt, death, longing... to add a few

Dark & Light
I'm thinking of concrete literary concepts... that symbolize something deeper/more abstract.
Though you're both right in the ideas you've mentioned too. I'm just thinking more concretely.

You got it! Actually, LadyD, I have a separate thread here on sonic imagery. These are excellent observations. I was just thinking ocean/sea too, but you beat me to it, golden sands!

I know, Lucy, I just woke up - you weren't supposed to notice I worded that sloppily. Look at the themes that are coming out: he sure sounds like a British boy (with a little Greek dancing thrown in), doesn't he?!!! ha!! Speaking of Greek dancing, has anyone noticed that in ITISTL there's a new instrumental segment in 7/8 time, that wasn't in the original ITISTL?? I think that's AWESOME!

he did say he switched some things around in that song. I actually heard the new ITISTL before i ever heard the original.. i guess it was one of those underrated songs. i like the new one a little better.
here's another theme: Windows (her eyes like windows tricklin' rain.. tables of paperwood, windows of light)
good call on the ticking clocks LadyD.. he even mentions that in one day at a time (we can watch the clocks unwind!)

I suppose we should mention the sad things in life such as death and dying.
