Okay up til now I had not heard one single song clip from An Other Cup. I wanted to keep my first listening experience pure & hear everything straight from the CD in surround sound. I really did not expect much from the CD & kept my expectations low. Today I got the CD & now I can say I think it's good. The song I fell in love with though is Green Fields, Golden Sands. I LOVE that song. Beautiful in it's simplicity.

This song makes me almost want to cry. OK... maybe I did a little. In two ways. First, just knowing that he should've sung this when he was just a lad -- I can almost hear his young, fresh voice echoing it in my mind to the backdrop of his mature voice. It's just so damn poignant! Secondly, the "just raise your eyes up and you'll be gone..." chokes me up. Both lyrically and musically. The way it lifts at that point, so delicately. So softly. Something about that note in "raise". Something about what he's saying. Or maybe it's a sonic imagery I'm experiencing there.. Or maybe it's because it sounds SO like the old Deram Cat. It's SO nostalgic. The song touches me deeply. It's a wonderful curtain close to the album. Sweet.

i think is a nice little great song :-)
i think he was right to leave this out of Mona bone jakon tho, and not because is not a good song, but because i think dont fit with the general mood of that album, a mood that i always thought was dark and quite angry
btw: you can only wonder how many other songs he have in the vault....

I didn't realise this was written for Mona Bone Jakon - cover version, I Think I See The Light and the reworking of the Foreigner Suite for Heaven aside, I thought the tracks were all new compositions...?

I certainly don't want to see anything from the MBJ era going to waste. Presumably there's plenty of time for all new songs.

There is just something about that part that moves me everytime I hear it. The whole song is so elegant and actually majestic, in a way. I can't get enough of hearing it. In the article that talks about Yusuf being a bridge builder, Yusuf says that "Greenfields, Golden Sands" was written for a musical but never used. I'm imagining it was probably written for "Revolusia". Cat certainly did write some gorgeous songs for "Revolusia". I would love to hear the rest of them someday! tinyurl.com/yzu9ug Q: When were the songs written?
A: A couple are quite old. "Greenfields, Golden Sands" was written in 1968 for a musical that was never realized and has now found a context almost 40 years later.

I'm not to keen on this song, couldn't imagine it fitting well in the MBJ era.

Just wondering where you guys heard this was supposed to be on Mona Bone Jakon? I really enjoy this song, but I can't imagine Mona Bone Jakon being any better than it already is.
Peace ;D

Hey thanks for the info, and if you can find a quote that would be even better!! Mona Bone Jakon is my favorite CD, and I would like to find out as much info as I can about it.
Peace
