Why is "Wild World" so overrated??why it's considered the trademark of Cat Stevens although it's not that good??i mean: the lyrics is great, but the song is not good at all, almost all Cat's songs are better than this one but surprisingly they are not famous as it does!!!what do you think??thanks a lot for sharing your opinion ;D
Regards...

but if people are turned on to wild world and go to discover his back catalogue...Personally I love Sun C/79

It's the syncopated drumming. WILD WORLD has always been my favourite for that reason. I've never heard a cover version.

I think Wild World got far more air play than most of Cat's other songs, there were a few more like Morning Has Broken, Moonshadow, Peace train, Another Satuirday Night (Which i personally never liked...)
That being said, of those that got the most air play, I like Morning Has Broken best, and Cat didn't even write that one. Most of his other music I wasn't real familiar with until I purchased his cds. (My older sister used to listen to him, i heard Sad Lisa and was hooked.)
Wild World is far from my favourite Cat song, but I like it alright.

It may not be his best song but it is the first song I had heard from Cat on the radio and it remains one of those magical songs from my past as many others do (other artists) from that time period. Oh Very Young is my favorite. Just love that song.

I like Wild World. It makes a timeless statement about going out in the world and being careful about who and what you get involved in. I also like the melody and his voice. In other words,I think it is a timeless classic that applies to any young person when they are experiencing life on there own for the first time. Sometimes the simplest songs have the most meaning. I like Wild World, I don't think its overrated at all, I've just played it in the car, skipped Sad Lisa because I wanted to hear Miles From Nowhere before I reached home ;D I also like Wild World by Jimmy Cliff.

On the Santa Monica CD, Cat mentions this in his talk to the audience. Referring to Wild World, He says it's funny how some songs become bigger/ well known than others, just by being released as a single, which makes them better - he disagrees with this, saying he thought Father & Son was his best song, although he still likes Wild World.

Oh no, you need my opinion too, mate... 'Wild World' is a masterpiece, pop-song at its best, excellent craftswork, elegant dance, warm melody, strong feeling, pure singing-songwriting. The right song at the right time. The way that album begins is so hard to equalise: 'Where Do the Children Play' + 'Hard-Headed Woman' (my fav there) + 'Wild World'...hmmm...so hard to find anything better.

I have heard it and I don't like it at all, sorry! Hey Ce, I never cared for Maxi Priests cover of Wild World either. I do love Jimmy Cliffs version though. Wild World really never influenced me one way or another. I personally think it gets so much air play, because it was Cats very first single out on the radio in the states. It's my least favorite songs on Tea For the Tillerman, And Cristalina, I do the opposite, I fast Forward W.W. to hear Sad Lisa. ;-)..

My dear ruins, I don't know how old you are but Wild World is Classic, intrinsic oldies for we "old folks." We couldn't do without it - just like my parents cannot do without "In the Mood" by Glenn Miller. A world without "Wild World" is not a world at all. It was very much the times, and it's still relevant today.

I dont like Lady D'Arbanville - I may have been a "Cat" fan for almost 40 years but I can still be critical about some of his music

No expert, but possibly Wild World was so popular because many people can identify with being very young and making mistakes & the song takes them back in time to some vulnerable memories or emotions they may have experienced. Usually songs get popular when people can feel connected to the meaning behind the song, except the dance stuff which doesn't even have to make sense at all. I liked Wild World because at one time I was finding out just how cold it could be out there & I could really relate to that song. I still like Wild World, but it is much farther down my list now. It's okay if you don't like Wild World I don't like everything he ever did either, though the ones I do like are engraved in my heart .
