Hi all, I have a little problem to put to you ardent Cat Stevens researchers out there! I just got an email from someone saying this: ... the other night I rented the film "We Bought A Zoo" - a really touching film that's worth seeing - and was surprised (very happily) to hear Don't Be Shy,probably my most favorite CS song ever, about 24-25 minutes in! I don't know anything about different versions / takes of songs, etc. but I could tell that this version was different from the one that was released because it does not have the piano in it at all, and the vocal sounds slightly different also. (I don't know if I'm right - I could be totally wrong). But I tried to capture a short sound clip with my phone, to see if you might recognize this version and know where the full one could be found? The soundtrack / score of the film is all by Jonsi, and doesn't include any of the songs in the film that were by other artists, from what I can see. Anyway, I've attached the clip (sorry it's not great quality - I couldn't get phone to record it any clearer!) so that you can hear the differences - I really like this version and I'd love to know where the full one can be found, if it is available!I researched a bit and found that indeed this version is not on the film soundtrack. Further research suggests that this is the alternate version from Harold and Maude but I have that and it seems different to me. Anyway I attach the snippet I was sent and look forward to your responses. Happy sleuthing! Chris Attachments:

Anyone out there? I have the rest of the song now and it's nothing that has been available before! - C

Chris, my take on this is that Cameron Crowe being a huge fan of Harold and Maude and being friends with Yusuf, he might have ask him for some unreleased demo version. Possible?

Very possible, thanks! I don't think that we'll be able to track this one down!
Cheers,
Chris

Sometimes you just have to go to the source. I asked Cameron Crowe on Twitter and this is his response: "It's an alternate performance given to us by Yusuf for our Vinyl release of the "Harold and Maude" soundtrack. You noticed!"So, there you go! Of course, I didn't tell him that I wasn't the one who noticed

Makes sense. I can't believe I let by this vinyl when it came out in 2008. Money was tight then. There are a couple on eBay going for over 300 dollars.

Yikes - almost $400! I guess that's not too surprising considering there were only 200 of the picture-disc produced (220 counting the test pressings.) Richina...Do you have one of these??

Nope, but if you're buying....... . I have the H & Maude soundtrack, got it on sale for $175.00 (ack, ugh, ouch.. ) but couldn't turn loose of the money for the picture disc! I sure would love to have one though... ;D
