Hello Lucas,

Geez, I'm surprised that translation is still lying around. I wrote that some time ago. I loved that song back when it came out. The style reminds me of flamenco, but the words are in Latin. I just started taking Latin at high school back then, so I tried to figure out the words on my own.

It's still a mystery to me where the words come from, i.e., if Cat wrote the words & had them translated into Latin, or if this is some original Latin text. This would be a great question to ask Yusuf. It's a very passionate song, for sure.

Yes i agree it sounds very Spanish and when i found out the lyrics (a few days ago) i was surprised, as what he is singing about doesnt seem to go with the music.

This song, the eight on the album Catch Bull at Four, is about the eighth bull stage of Zen Buddhism. In this stage the self and bull transcend themselves. What does that mean?? Figure it out yourself because it took me almost forty five years to understand it. Essentially, it has much to do with ego death or at least getting complete control of ones ego in order to survive and live a meaningful life. Why was it sung in Latin? I think because many Zen Buddhists believe that the crucifixion of Jesus was really a metaphor for ego death and Latin was the language of the Romans who crucified him.
