Hi everyone . My name is Rashid . I am new here ! I picked up the guitar and learnt how to play it by myself in 2008 due to the influence of the beatles . Ever since then , i have been hooked onto playing the guitar . I also learnt how to play the piano ( very basic ) . Recently i found out about Badfinger , Big Star , Chris Bell , Elliott Smith , Nick Drake and Cat Stevens . Cat has a really unique style of finger picking that i love ! I love 70s music . Once in a while , i listen to early 60s folk music like Brothers Four , Peter Paul and Mary etc . I have a youtube channel : Rashidcovers , that i have made and dedicated to . You will find many covers of the artistes i listed above . I am currently working on two albums , which i am going to release for free I am not a professional . Playing music is my hobby . One of the albums is called " Away " . I have some demos on my channel . I am also making a website , which is under construction . www.rashidcovers.weebly.com Some questions . Any of you guys heard of Nick Drake ? If so , do you have any information if he and Cat ever met ? I just found some photoshoots of them at the same place ! ( separate days ) . I made this picture Also , i am planning to buy a new acoustic guitar . I am going towards looks ( like a hummingbird ) and sound , and something not that expensive . Any recommendations ? Thanks

Hope you enjoy your stay here. Hopefully, some of your questions will be answered by other members. I gave a listen to a couple of your YT covers and they sound great. You play "If I Laugh" in the same key as i, difference is I fingerpick.

Welcome, Rashid.
Thanks for posting. I read up on Nick Drake...sad story that he took his own life. Similarly the lead singer of Badfinger did the same. I loved the music of Badfinger and one of the very few songs I can play on piano from memory is the Badfinger song "Day After Day". Recently I took my musical instruments out of the closet where they have been sitting for way too long, and have attempted to learn Cat Stevens' "Sad Lisa" on the keyboards and on acoustic guitar I was trying to play "Longer Boats" and "On the Road to Find Out". It seems that playing guitar is possibly helping to alleviate the carpal tunnel symptoms that I've had in my left hand. So even if my playing is awful, it seems to have some benefit. I suppose there are a lot of good acoustic guitar brands out there. I have an Ovation (used to have 2, but recently shared with a friend who is learning to play). The Ovations I have owned are alright, but I seem to have to re-tune one of the strings frequently. Maybe it's something in the neck of the instrument, and I most likely need a new set of strings. Anyway, best of luck with your musical endeavors, and welcome to the site.
On a related note, my son opened a fortune cookie last evening. The message inside read: "The universe without music would be madness." We both like that message.
