I have often found a lot of information on the imdb website, and decided to look up their entry for Cat Stevens. There is a lot of information there regarding various TV shows and movies that featured either appearances by Cat Stevens/Yusuf or the use of his songs. Interesting to look through: www.imdb.com/name/nm0828310/

Thank you, t4tillerman, that imdb list is interesting and has helped me figure out the first time I saw or heard of Cat Stevens. I recall asking my parents for permission to stay up late to watch the In Concert program in 1973, so my first "encounter" had to have been earlier.
I recall a tv program on in the afternoon (in the U.S.), and seeing this long-haired, bearded, gorgeous man wearing a striped long-sleeved t-shirt (I think) and playing the guitar on a spare stage. I had never heard of Cat Stevens or his music before (I was only 10-11 years old depending on the time of year it was), but I was riveted to that program and well, it was love at first sight. So it must have been that Boboquivari show in 1971. I thought it was later but there are no other U.S. programs that it could be before the In Concert program.
Does anyone else have a recollection of that Boboquivari program? Would it have been aired in the afternoon on the east coast in the U.S.? Was Cat Stevens wearing a striped t-shirt?

As far as I know, the Boboquivari show is another name for the KCET-TV performance (Tea For The Tillerman Live) recorded in June 1971: Not wearing a striped t-shirt in this one. BUT, there are these pictures taken by photographer Chris Walter during a 1971 TV show that has never been identified, or maybe it has and I missed it, but I don't think so. Here's the link to the pictures and yes, he is wearing a striped shirt. I remember seeing other stills from that show that were in color. Pretty sure the TV show was taped in England. Maybe someone should contact Chris Walter and ask where this is from: www.photofeatures.com/catstevens/ppages/ppage12.htmlwww.photofeatures.com/catstevens/ppages/ppage13.htmlwww.chriswalterphotography.com/P.S. I knew I had seen this color picture before, here it is, on the cover of this German songbook:

Thank you, glaucus, for that research. I don't think I'd seen the KCET program before (I would have remembered the different lyrics for 'Longer Boats'). This setting, with people in the audience, doesn't fit with what I remember of the first time I saw Cat Stevens. Then, again, it was 40+ years ago, so my memory might be faulty I recall a very spare stage, the striped shirt and no audience members. So my recollection may be of that mysterious 1971 program photographed by Chris Walter. I've contacted him to ask where and when he took those photos.
