Hm, I was listening this song for a couple of times in last hour, and... I like it, but I have a problem with Yusuf's covers, for example cooperation VOORMAN & FRIENDS: A SIDEMAN’S JOURNEY, when he sings George Harrisson's songs... his voice seems to me not strong enough to reach some high notes, and a similar problem I find also with Dying To Live. In some part of the song he sounds great but sometimes with much difficult to reach some notes (I do not know how it will looks like in concert?). On the other side, musical arrangement is very nice, and if I can play a little with ***** I'll give Yusuf ***1/2 for this song Dying To Live - 3,5 of 5 But, I am much interested in his own material, only 5 songs ("Doors" we already know from his last tour), so 4 more to come. Enough?

I first went to listen to Edgar Winter's original version of the song, as I was unfamiliar with it. Then I listened to Yusuf's rendition, and I like it fine.
The thing about blues is that it isn't so much about vocal pitch perfection or precision instrumental virtuosity as it is about feeling and emotion. In a way blues can make you feel sad yet inspired at the same time. I think Yusuf brings out that emotion in his version. I think he will bring his unique spirituality to these songs, and look forward to hearing the album in its entirety. All in good time.
besides, I am a sucker for piano. Wish I could play like that.

aaaaaaahhhhh...I like it better every time I hear it! I find his voice so soothing and authentic. Such a perfect genre for his unique voice! Love it!! PS I agree, the noise sounds like chord changes on the guitar.
