Which album do you prefer?
Although each album has its standout tracks, my choice is:
1. Cup 8/10 2. Gone 7/10 3. Roadsinger 6/10

As we're only comparing the three Yusuf albums, I'd go 1. Cup 7/10 2. Road-singer (my iPad insists in putting the hyphen in!) 7.5/10 3. Gone 8/10 My reasons are as follows. Cup was rather over-produced and v bit too religiously themed for me although several sons were lovely. Road singer was a step towards the Cat we knew and loved. Some of his jerky timing was beginning to resurface. I loved the unpredictability of his work! This latest one plays the blues, as I do with my band, and it's clear he's enjoying it as much as we do! Great stuff, beautifully arranged and with a fantastic sound reproduction! So why does he lose two points? Well, it's for two songs which don't really belong on this album imho. Any ideas which two (and I know I'm being picky)? Mind you, it's all subjective and this is just my view. Best to all, Chris

I deducted points from Roadsinger because three of the songs on side two are very short. Re- Gone...from a stylistic POV, I guess you're referring to Cat & the dog trap, and Doors. As you say, it's all subjective but it's very interesting to read other members' views.

My guess also is 'Doors'and 'Cat&the Dogtrap'are the songs you would take off the album. They happen to be my two favourite songs on the album. It really is interesting to read all the reviews and see how different people are viewing songs. In the Observer review 'Doors' is called a highlight and a 'peach of a song' and in others reviewers comment it has no place on the album. Opinions on 'I was raised in Babylon' also differ widely. Vive la difference!

You're right,of course, those are the two songs I would not have put on the album, it doesn't mean I don't like them but I think they are misplaced on a blues album and just seem strange. It is very interesting hearing what other people think! For me, possibly the best three albums ever are MBJ, Tillerman and Teaser. It took me much longer to like Foreigner and I still don't really listen much to side 2. But, for others, they are their favourite songs. That's why Cat is so clever, he delivers a wide range of material which will cross different folks' Interests at some point. I admire his versatility. One feature of his music, missing until recently, is his jerky and unpredictable rhythms. That always stood him out from the crowd in my book, that and the growl the in his voice which was, I think, due to smoking! Smoking does you no good whatsoever and, personally I hate smoke! I'm really pleased for him that he has quit, but it sure did give him a great voice as it has done for so many other top singers. Keep enjoying the music! Chris

I know I'm probably in a minority of one, but I feel that Teaser is a retread of Tillerman. My top three are Tillerman, Bull and Foreigner.

I look at MBJ, Tea, and Teaser as being as trio of what he had backlogged during his illness. In that regard, Teaser would be an extension of the other two. Just my thoughts.

Teaser is still good by anyone's standards...only not as good as Tillerman IMHO. Bitterblue and Changes IV stray from the simplicity that made Tillerman superb for that reason.

I agree with your assessment. I just thought the "retread" comment on Teaser was a little harsh. As an album, I like Tea better than Teaser. Although, Teaser has some of my most favorite songs. I've always viewed the trio of MBJ, Tea, and Teaser as being a three album set, given that their release time is so close together. Just my thoughts. They are all good.
