Yes, I was there and what a great show it was. I was prompted to post here after reading Mr Bugerigar's review on this site of the bootleg recording of this concert - where would I get a copy?
On another tack, I was very happy to find the Porchester concert on Stage6.divx and very impressed with the quality of the music, but this understatement belies how good this man and his music was/is.
Several months ago, I viewed the Magicat DVD and, after seeing this show which was recorded decades ago, commented to my friends that I had forgotten just what a great poet, storyteller and musician this man is.
As for Mr Budgerigar's bootleg review, the Sydney concert was held in what was Sydney's 'premier' rock venue of the time, the salubrious Hordern Pavilion, a big shed at the original Sydney Showgrounds in Moore Park. This hall seated about 4,500 in total discomfort but it was far enough away from the neighbours to allow for rock concerts of all shapes and sizes without noise complaints. No one would have complained that night because Cat and his band were absolutely superb - a night to remember. I and hundreds of thousands of other Sydneysiders saw all the greats here, including Doobies, Joe Cocker, Tull, the list goes on . . .
If only we could see something like that 1972 show again 'down under'. Maybe, with the guidance of Mr Budgerigar, I might get to hear it again?
