Thanks SuzieQ,
Wow, I'm overwhelmed. My favourite ending of all of Cat's songs is Foreigner & now, to have that bit sung so beautifully at the beginning of this track, brought tears to my eyes. (that usually only happens when I cut onions!) So nostalgic but somehow new. I don't know whether to cry or smile. I feel so odd. Happy/sad. I can't explain my emotion, I feel so soppy.
This is just great.

Good marketing technique, removing his last name. Br. Yusuf can probably get airplay on Christian stations too. It sounds to me on all tracks I've heard on the new album that he's making up for all the instruments he didn't use for 28 yrs. I hope he calms down on this if there is another mainstream album. Too overproduced like his late 60s stuff. kareema

Oh dear I'm not too sure admittedly the sound wasn't too good so I had to strain to hear it, but I love Foreigner, just as it is. I found it difficult to hear it being sung differently. I do love Maybe There's a World and Midday though ;D

It sounds to me on all tracks I've heard on the new album that he's making up for all the instruments he didn't use for 28 yrs. LOL, kareema. My thoughts exactly. It's like .. his fans wanted instruments, they got instruments! Not that I necessarily mind.. it's just funny. As for the Heaven song... I hate to say it, but so far I don't like it. I've heard it twice, but not under very good circumstances. Basically it just sounds like a quick and dirty re-hash. But although I find the lyrics a bit banal, I do think it has a sweet sound (musically) and that his voice sounds great. Too bad. I hope I change my mind.........

I'm glad I'm not alone in not thinking this new music is the best thing since sliced bread. I keep trying to convince myself that it just sounds overproduced and "poppy" because I'm used to his Islamic stuff. So far I haven't been successful. Trouble is that I have always liked the later CS albums like Foreigner, Numbers, etc over the Teaser era because of the more "orchestral" sound. Sorry, Br. Yusuf. I know you like what you've done. Perhaps I'll get used to it. I don't think I'm your target audience anyway. kareema

I didn't like "Heaven/Where True Love Goes" at all the first time I heard it. In fact, I was kind of appallled that they would choose that for the single. It seems a little on the religious side (changing girls to souls, for example) to be put out as a single from a secular album. However, someone posted that maybe it is a love song to his wife and it well could be, perhaps. I'm not sure. I wish I could make out a couple of the words near the end of the song that would clarify that better.
Anyway, I have listened to it quite a few times now, and it has really grown on me and I now find myself humming it. I like it more and more with each listen. Still, I don't know if it was the best choice for a single. I do think he sings it really well.
My favorite that I have heard so far is "Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood". I think his voice is especially gorgeous on that song and he sings it so beautifully.
I think maybe some of the other songs will have a quieter production. At least I hope so. I want a few to sound just like the old Cat. I hope that's not asking too much!

I think it's been chosen as a single because he's doing religous to mainstream fanbase crossover like Sandy Patti did years ago. I'm serious about how he might could get airplay on Christian stations. No "Islam" in his name and many people may not know who CS is. kareema

I think the song is great, the ending of Foreigner is my all time favourite Cat Stevens tune so for him to have brought it back and mixed it with a new song is like a dream come true...as for the sound quality I agree with a few of you that say it is not very clear, the instrumental parts are very unclear, although that might (hopefully) have been because it was on the radio. I've heard clips of other songs from An other cup and they sound very well produced so I don't think we have too much to worry about. Oh and the ending of this new song is brilliant, those violins coming in at the end, shame Ken Bruce didn't let the whole thing play.

His Sco'ish accent rocks though. And it seems pretty clear that the Foreigner part is talking about his wife. "The moment you said 'I will'....". You don't say anything resembling 'I will' be to become a Muslim. And he's never talked to or seen the Prophet Muhammad pbuh. kareema

I found Heaven in my head all day today, oddly enough...
It occurs to me that Heaven has a very 1980-ish feel to it... as if he literally picked up where he left off in the late 70's.
I still prefer Midday though...
His voice sounds fabulous at any rate... and all the instrumental parts of all the songs I've heard so far are really lovely.

So far -- having listened to 3 of his songs five or more times each -- I haven't been struck by ANY sonic imagery.
Darn.
But I am liking the "new music" more and more all the time!!!

Lucy: Yusuf has asked me to tell you you must stand in the corner until you are prepared to say that EVERYTHING about the new music is wonderful. Don't shoot the messenger.

At first I thought he said "the moment you said I will".....but after listening a few times I didn't know whether he is saying "I will", or something else. Also the part where he says either "my fate, or my faith" was sealed. I couldn't tell which of those two words he is saying. Those things could change the meaning a little. On the Ken Bruce website they list the music played for each day, and next to "Heaven/Where True Love Goes" it says "radio edit" so I guess the album will have a longer version of the song. I'm still liking it more and more.
