The Dear Mr Fantasy gig, which took place on Sunday 21st January has been out a day or two now on DVD. It's a fitting tribute to the late great Jim Capaldi. Yusuf's rendition of Jim's 'Man With No Country', with his tagged on Zulu version of 'Wild World', is quite something. A great song performed impeccably. It's really nice to see the visual, as opposed to the audio equivalent. There's some impressive bonus footage of Yusuf in rehearsal too. Profits from the concert and DVD go to underprivileged kids in Brazil. Stevie Winwood looks as youthful as ever, Pete Townshend does a great job of 'No Face No Name No Number' - Lucy! Joe Walsh wins the gurning competition and does play some fantastic guitar - 'John Barleycorn Must Die' is a gem. Essential purchase!

PS, close up of Joe Walsh, so that folks in US can understand the term "gurning":

Daddo-o, the dvd is great. I was at the concert and the dvd brought back what a great night it was! Yusuf's performance alone of Man With No Country is worth buying the dvd for, visual is always so much better (but not sure in the case of Joe Walsh ;D ;D you are spot on with your comment there!! gurning lol, the faces he made were hilarious). Yusuf's performance was second to none. Joanne came from Boston especially for this and said it was so worth it, just to hear him perform one (well two-ish) songs. I'm going to see Paul Weller on Sunday at The Astoria, always liked him but never THAT enthusiastic about going to see him, but I thought his Mr Fantasy performance was terrific, my brother is a big fan and bought the ticket for me, so what the hell

So I assume the sound quality's really good, George? OK, I'm getting it for my birthday! I'm gonna be amazoning tomorrow anyway. Oh and marier -- you're lucky to see Paul Weller. I love his voice. And yes, I remember that picture, George. Funny how a picture from your past can be so familiar all of a sudden again. (well, not MY past... LOL) (p.s. George, did they cut out Pete's expletive?)

Thanks Marier, hope you enjoy the Paul Weller gig. Hopefully he'll do some old Jam numbers. A great little band. Paul was impressive on the Jim Capaldi DVD. That was a long way to travel for Joanne and true dedication. Not a bad US price for the DVD Bella. Quality is fab Lucy, I don't recall Pete's expletive.
Very best
George

From what I can remember Pete was talking about the song he was about to sing and someone in the audience shouted something like "get on with it" (meaning the song) and Pete made some #x!*!* comment and if it had been a few years ago he would have jumped off the stage and headbutted him or some words to that effect. It was all done in jest though, and the crowd just cheered!

Ale, you will just love the whole version of Yusuf's Man with no Country, it really was superb. I really would love it if he sang this on his next album. Along with Saturn it is the type of song that really suits his voice if he were to think of doing a cover version!

Thank you, Ale. It was very nice to hear even just a little bit of Yusuf's voice. It's strange, but his voice is so familiar to me that I can't tell how the song really sounds. It's like a familiar face - we get so used to its proportions and expressions that we don't see it in the same way as someone new does. Does anyone else know what I mean? ~Sun~

I think I ordered the CD and not the DVD. It says I am too late to make changes. I guess I will have to order the dvd separately. I'll have to wait a few weeks.

I think this turned out to be a blessing in disguise. It's great to be getting both -- the DVD for when you have time to sit down and watch it, and the CD for background music when you're busy at home or in the car driving. ~Sun~

ooh, got it today! What a lovely, colorful little CD booklet too. And sweetly written little contributing essays recalling Jim.
Can't wait to listen.
How utterly cool (and singularly RARE) to have both my favorite people side-by-side on this one CD)!
