In my humble opinion, since I strongly agree that one "can't argue with a good song," Yusuf's new album will put a lot of this nonsense to rest. I expect the album to be upbeat, positive, heart-touching, disarming, eye-opening, tear-jerking, hopeful, healing, beautiful, emotional, inspirational. . . Not too much to ask for. ~Sun~

A new blog on his Myspace Site
German artist and musician Klaus Voormann, known as the “5th Beatle” has recently been in London to work with Yusuf on two George Harrison songs. The tracks were completed at a studio near Notting Hill and mixing is currently taking place in preparation for imminent release.
The recordings, “The Day the World Gets ‘Round” and “All Things Must Pass”, feature Yusuf on vocals, 12-string, and acoustic guitar, Klaus Voormann on bass, Luke Potashnick on electric and acoustic guitars, Cassiano De Sa on electric guitar, Nikolaj Torp on piano/keyboards, and Kristoffer Soone on drums.
Proceeds from “The Day the World Gets ‘Round” will be donated to aid children and families in Gaza, and both tracks are to appear on Klaus Voormann’s forthcoming album, A Sideman’s Journey, later this year, the proceeds of which will be donated to an environment and health project in aid of the Oglala Sioux of Pine Ridge Indian Reservation in South Dakota, North America.

Sadly not one of the judges in that Rolling Stones 100 greatest singers thing voted for Yusuf How do you know none of them did? Is there a list of who voted for whom? I just figured that he didn't receive enough votes to make the cut, but would like to see the list if it's available. Super sad, if true! joni...

Thanks for the link Paulo
Its very sad, people have either poor taste or short memories. What is even sadder are the comments posted in the link. Some people are so ignorant.

"School Play" is the thing in Mamaroneck | In the WingsFor full article, see the above link. "Velleu set the montage to a Cat Stevens song called “The Wind.”
Stevens — who now goes by the name Yusuf Islam — has seen “School Play,” Velleu says, adding: “He wouldn’t give us the permission for the song unless he blessed it. We sent him the movie in Bahrain, where he was recording an album.
“He’s an idol of mine and we made the mistake of falling in love with that song for the end of the film.
“People said ‘Are you guys idiots?’ All of the record label people who owned the other songs told us we’d never get his permission.”
But after a three-week search, asking everyone they knew, they found Islam, sent him the film, and got his blessing to use the song."

How could anyone not fall in love with 'The Wind'. It didn't turn out to be a mistake after all. How many people get the chance to be blessed by YI. That was a lovely gesture YI, God bless you too Yusuf Islam. I would have loved to have seen this film. Thanks Sue for the news.

From Vintage Vinyl News: Yusuf (Cat Stevens) Has High Profile Collaborations on New AlbumYusuf Islam (formerly Cat Stevens) is in the midst of recording his next album for release in late spring and is being joined by a few high profile entertainers, including Paul McCartney, Dolly Parton and Michelle Branch.
The singer tells Billboard that this will be a much simpler album than his comeback, 2006's An Other Cup. "This one was really a result of me writing a lot of songs and being kind of inspired again. After I recorded ['Cup'] people just wanted to hear me do a lot of simple stuff, just with the guitar.
"Perhaps I went to town a little bit with the production on the last album. I was just having fun with the new technologies ... we have endless tracks on Pro Tools. You can just flow them out and add and add, and I did."
The first single from the album will be Boots & Sand, a collaboration with McCartney and Parton. The song is based on Islam's 2004 incident where he was barred from the U.S. on a faulty no-fly terrorist list.
Another track, To Be What You Must, features Michelle Branch and Gunnar Nelson, so of Rick Nelson.
No title or firm release date have been announced.winkscollectibles.blogspot.com/2009/01/yusuf-cat-stevens-has-high-profile.html

From billboard The former Cat Stevens will follow up 2006's "An Other Cup," his first secular album in 28 years, with a set that recalls his straightforward troubadour days. The as-yet-untitled set is due in late spring from Universal.
"This one was really a result of me writing a lot of songs and being kind of inspired again," Yusuf tells Billboard. "After I recorded ['Cup'] people just wanted to hear me do a lot of simple stuff, just with the guitar."
The single "Boots & Sand" features Paul McCartney and Dolly Parton -- with a video shot by Jesse Dylan, son of Bob -- while Michelle Branch and Gunnar Nelson assist on the track "To Be What You Must."
"Boots" was written as a result of 2004 incident in which Yusuf was denied entry into the U.S., apparently as a result of mistaken identity on the post-9/11 "no fly" terrorist watch list. "It's a slight oddity of a song," he says. "The image I had was kind of a cowboy B-movie made in Italy, but the story came from real events, real people."
The new album's stripped-down sound is in contrast to "Cup," which featured tracks with prominent layers. "Perhaps I went to town a little bit with the production on the last album," Yusuf says. "I was just having fun with the new technologies -- we have endless tracks on Pro Tools. You can just flow them out and add and add, and I did." Yusuf came to Pro Tools thanks to his son, who performs under the name Yoriyos and encouraged him to play with recordings and a computer in his home studio in London. "He's got such ears," Yusuf says. "I could understand what he wanted to create - that journey than the album can take you on."

Thanks to ptijerm and Regine for the info on Yusuf's new album. I'm really looking forward to the simpler songs, with just guitar. "To Be What You Must" sounds interesting. And I think it's wise of Yusuf to take his time in choosing an album title - I hope he comes up with a great one. Also, it's wise to not announce a release date - when a release is delayed from an announced date, it looks kind of bad, and so it's better to wait until it's definite. Can't wait for next spring. I have been browsing the net, and have not been able to find a video or mention of her actually singing a CS classic. All it said in one article, is that "she sang her famous song about change". She also said that she wore a dress and heels for the preisdent.
I guess we will never find out, unless they put up the video on youtube on a later date.

Although we were expecting this, it's another feeling when it actually happens. Love the sketch of CS/YI. And George Harrison, and others. The artwork is superb. Is it safe to assume it was done by Klaus Voorman? Maybe it's written somewhere - I need to go back and read more carefully. . .

I'd say with a certain degree of confidence that Klaus has done the album cover work. I'm so excited for this release! sadly I don't think I'll have net access next week for the release- so I'll have to wait a little longer

The artwork is a compilation: The image of Cat is from the Starart cover, and the image of George is from the cover of The Beatles' Revolver. (But I've no idea where the image of Klauss may have originated, or if it was drawn recently for this project.) -Joanne

From the red marquee at catstevens.com: Bonnie Prince Billy Records Cover of "One Day at a TIme."One Day at a TimeYusuf One day at a time, we can learn to leave the past behind One day at a time, we can look the future in the eye One day at a time, we can learn to live The gates of the Garden are open, wide; and the trusting Seventy thousand will enter of them, without reckoning One day at a time, we can learn to leave our fears behind One day at a time, we can stare our hopes in the eye One day at a time, we can learn to live And if you meet the evening, don't wait for the Sun to rise One day at a time, we can leave old treasures behind One day at a time, we can watch the clocks unwind One day at a time, a child is born into this world, eyes blind One day he will find his sight, and glimpse another kind of Light To live by - one day One day at a time, we can put machines behind One day at a time, we can learn how birds survive One day at a time, we can learn to fly ~Sun~

[shadow=PINK,left,300]MOONSHADOW[/shadow] Debuts in Northampton this JulyMailonlineOut from the shadows Moonshadow features a raft of Yusuf Islam songs Yusuf Islam - the artist formerly known as Cat Stevens - has written a musical called Moonshadow featuring a raft of his hit songs. I wrote about this a few years ago and it has taken that long to sort out all the rights to numbers such as Morning Has Broken, Wild World and so on. Moonshadow is expected to be 'tried out' in Northampton in July and if all works well it will head to the West End. Siobhan McCarthy, original star of the musical Mamma Mia!, will be singing at a preview of parts of Moonshadow at the Prince of Wales Theatre on February 15, during the Whatsonstage.com Theatregoers Awards.

Sue, if I understand correctly, you are telling us that the musical 'Moonshadow' is about to hit the stage!!!!West End!!!!! I've got goose bumps just thinking about it. Is this really happening!!!! His once long time dream, as a young Cat, is becoming a reality. I think I will pinch myself. ;D Everything we always wanted is unfolding before us. July is out of the question for me to see the musical, but if I do get the opportunity to see the musical, it will be in September or Xmas. "HOPE YOU ARE READING THIS YUSUF ISLAM"!!!!! ;D I pray it will be a long running musical. Thankyou for the fantasic news Sue!!! Who can sleep now? ;D
